Can someone explain JB sick time? Seems like the APC page differentiates PTO vs sick.
Looks like at JetBlue you get one trip covered about every 3 months for a sick call (0-5) up to a max of a trip every two months.
Sick/Vacation is all in one bank: PTO (Paid Time Off). For your first several years, it accrues at 9 hours a month. If you call in sick, it comes out of your PTO bank. If you bid vacation, it comes out of your PTO bank. If you drop a trip and want to get paid, it comes out of your PTO bank. You do have the option of taking sick days and dropped trips unpaid. Why the hell would anyone do that? Because after you get to 100 hours in the PTO bank, you can sell it back at 150%. At this point, I generally don't use PTO for sick calls. I can get more $$$ if I call in sick unpaid then cash out the PTO at 150%. If I just want the same amount of $$$ that I would have gotten for the trip, it takes fewer hours out of the bank that way.
It also depends on what the credit for the trip is. If it's a high productivity 4 day, you'll lose more out of your PTO bank than you would for a rigged 4 day.
FYI, I'm dead last in seniority and was able to get the weekend I needed in March off thanks to multiple schedule adjustment windows, PTO and automated systems. No need to have to call in sick, BUT we had reserve coverage on those days, so it approved it. After the second window, it's on a first come, first serve basis, so seniority doesn't play into it. Now, if someone senior to me wanted that Saturday off, unless someone picks up that open trip that day, it'll get denied since we're at min reserve coverage that day. The question is, will they try to ditch it on the trade board, just call in sick to get the schedule they want or fly their schedule.....
