Jeppesen iPad app

The saab CA PDA came out in the recent news letter. Whiz wheel will be the back up now.

Sweet, a step in the right direction it seems. I still like my ACARS and would love an iPad. I can do pretty much everything on my iphone, a "bigger" version would be easier. This JCBA on the iPhone is a little rough though in current form...

Joe or other messaba guys can give details on the pda they use, we are just getting the same...

I agree the jcba on an ipad would be better... esp. the search function :)

How are they going to prevent flight crew from using the iPad for non EFB functions. Is apple aiding them in modifying iOS?

I wondered this at first too but then thought what's to stop someone from pulling their own iPad out during flight. Really no different. Just trusting people to be professional. Something you can't really teach or regulate.

Good because I was not looking forward to using my minutes to call dispatch every day.

Two words: gate phone. I have yet to use my cel phone to call dispatch or MX. If I don't have ACARS, I'll walk up to the gate and call the 1-800 number from there. No gate phone? Bet there's pay phone somewhere near the gate that you can use the 1-800 number on. It even works in Canada. I've tried it. :) If it's for company business, I consider the battery in my cel phone "dead." They don't require us to have one, so they need to provide another means for us to get in touch with dispatch/MX.

Not sure what the status is of the LIDO subscription over at 9E. It would seem odd for them to continue using LIDO at 9E while using Jepp at Colgan and Mesaba. Probably more expensive to have two different subscription services, too. I'd be curious to see the terms of both the LIDO and the Jepp agreements. Wouldn't surprise me if there's a way out of one or both of them.

These will not be "hardwired" into the aircraft. There will simply be a holder to put it (where the chart clip currently is). There will also be a required backup power source, which will be a battery pack with a power cord, so the thing won't go dead when you forgot to charge it in the hotel... or played angry birds on your "airport appreciation" sit.

At ASA they will be hard wired.

Anyone figure out how to get to the enroute charts on the Jepp app? I've been playing with the demo version and can't figure it out. We have a code for the full version at SkyW, but I haven't got mine yet.

Are you just using your jeppview code?

An stc for airline use is very expensive.

It requires demonstarted quality control, including parts from vendors, aircraft specific proving, engineering data etc... its not a quick or easy proposition, and to be honest. I doubt you would get apple to play the game and let the faa look at the power regulator/ battery/ voltage contoler in the ipad.

iPads or a different EFB product? The issue (I was told) was that hardwiring requires an STC and additional testing that costs a good bit of money.

iPads are the only one being tested. They are working on a plug. It will connect to the aircraft data from a wireless system that will be an STC.

Connect to the aircraft data? As in it will be able to send/receive through the ACARS, meaning W&B, performance, dispatch and weather all on the iPad?

I've been using this app since our company offered it on the iPads. It works great for everything but enroute charts.

The codes I received when I purchased the west revealed only the plates. I received a software cd packet, but have not uploaded the information yet....will advise.....although I did receive the Low enroute charts.
