Jennifer Aniston pitches for Emirates

Again. Awesome! Have we ever done this? And if it's that easy why not just block the ME3? It seems we have the tools in place.

Expect the government with balls. Hence the campaign to bring pressure to bear upon the Administration to actually do something about it.

All you mention paint the picture of what United States and other Airlines in the world are competing against.

You deny them landing rights/impound their aircraft, until they start complying.
I'm responding to what you say is unfair work practices. We cant possibly compete with the ME3 since they are obviously more efficient based on their horrible work rules. Which is it, we have the treaties to stop them (open skies) or we can't compete?

That's all I'm saying. We need to pressure our own representatives or we can continue to blame the "unfair" advantage the ME3 has.

Open Skies treaties doesn't deal with airline work rules.
So we lock them out right? They need our airports to compete on overseas routes. Seems simple. Wait, it's not that simple. Because if we lock them out, what's to keep another country from doing the same to us.

As long as we aren't violating any open skies agreements or negotiated air treaties with that country, then their action would be deemed illegal by ICAO, and they could be fined or sanctioned.

I'm mostly playing devils advocate. And I know there's more to a story than ALPA would like us to believe. If we have a system in place to address some of these issues, let's exhaust them before going all cray cray over some actress who did a commercial. :)

Plenty of 'hate on the game' is going on in the DC Beltway with this.

Agreed. As it should, if our own government is essentially working against our own country's carriers. Makes me wonder why they are......who is benefitting from keeping the home team at a disadvantage.

When have I blamed the ME3 for ALL of the problems?
Not all the problems but I've never heard you mention any thing we can do here (the US) to change the situation. It's always been "it's soooooo unfair, they don't have work rules, thier FA's are almost slaves and they're subsidized by their government". I'm just saying its a lot more complicated issue than that. If you feel it is too, awesome, I just haven't heard you mention it.

I have mentioned other issues.

The reality is that the ad will have little impact whatsoever. Emirates' target customers in the US are well aware of the ammenities they offer and already on board and their opinion won't change. They use their miles or company funds for the most luxurious seat they can buy and I can't blame them. Those that aren't? They're not really in play and frankly those are the ones that will see the add. This says a lot more about the political struggle than it does about attracting new Emitates ticket purchasers. It has political implications for sure but Jennifer Anniston right or wrong on the issues is a bumbling idiot.

From the lady who brought you the oversexed dentist on "Horrible Bosses" and introducing middle America to the zany side of New York City (strangely missing Puerto Ricans), GEOPOLITICS by Jennifier Anniston!

Hardly proof-positive.

Uh huh. Admitting their own subsidies isn't proof. Got it.

Plus, a slippery slope. It's alleging 1.9 billion in savings from a non-unionized work group, but that's just pushing it. If you look at salaries alone and ignore the other cash elements, then you aren't seeing the whole picture. Things like housing, transportation, and education for 3 kids is something that adds huge value over the published income figure for EK pilots.

Ignore the part about labor advantages (even though that is an important issue). Just look at the rest. Still subsidized massively. Hell, the government assuming their hedging loss alone is a massive subsidy.

Emirates has a massive lobbying and PR organization up and running in D.C. They're even sponsoring Little League teams in the D.C. area in order to get people used to seeing them and not thinking they're the bad guy.

Ok. If you say so. I just didn't see it this thread.

Why would he be posting about other issues in a thread that is specifically about this issue?

Ms Anniston is doing what she does best: create a character you can quickly identify with, doing things you could do but usually don't, and making you laugh - at and with her, and thereby at yourself, in a non-threatening way. That's a performer for you.

Safe bet: she didn't need this paycheck. But I'll bet she liked the concept, the script and felt she could make this character come alive in a very short time. IMHO, she succeeded wonderfully.

There are those comic performers who can also do deep and serious dramatic work. Not all can (or have to!). Time will tell how successful she'll be at that.
