Ok, for all the horror stories I've heard about flying in the New York area, I must say that the River Visual 13 to LGA is an absolutely gorgeous approach. We came in from ORF in the Lear at around 1530. I wouldn't want to be based up here, but I don't mind the scenery every once in a while.

P.S. If anyone is overnighting here tonight, we're staying in the Marriott across the street from the USAirways terminal. Drinking buddies welcome...

That's one of my favorites. There's also a CVFP to runway 31 that takes you right across Central Park. You'd also have a blast flying the River Visual 19 into DCA or the Visual 1 circle-to-land 33. I'm sure there are more, but those come to mind.r

Hey TFaudree, what's going on in your avatar? Can't tell why the dude in the background is having a bad day. Just curious.

I'd give you a youtube link, but it looks like every video site pulled the video down for copyright or something.

The guy was the weather man, and during the middle of his segment, he got some serious stomach cramps and ran off the stage. I think the sound tech forgot to mute his mic, because you could hear everything that was going on in the bathroom.

It is an absolutely FANTASTIC approach. And EXTREMELY RARE!

The approach controller told us that they do it maybe 4 times/ year.

It's even better at night especially from the right seat...You have Manhattan right out your window..you can see Times Square all lit up. I guess I got lucky. I had that approach every time we went into LGA for a three day stretch back in September.

I also love the Expressway Visual for 31...That's a blast to fly! Or in PHL when tower wants you to make a tight left downwind departure for t/o off Rwy 35! That's a fun one too...

The River Visual looks like an awesome approach. It's even nice to fly the Hudson in a single-engine down at 800ft.

That is a really fun approach..

De-Ice isn't a big deal either - as long as you have patience..

The other night we took off out of Midway, then they turned us east over the city. And when I say over the city, I mean RIGHT over the top, about 1000 feet over downtown. They then turned us north, which let us look right down into the skyscrapers. It was a beautiful clear night, and we had a great view of the city. It was one of the best departures I've ever seen...
