I have some questions...

1) Once you apply and they like you, do they call or e-mail you for an interview?
2) Say I would get hired in the next 2-3 months, how long would it take to hold SLC as a base?
3) How long is reserve/hold a line in SLC?

Thx!

1) Your best bet is to go to an open house/job fair that's listed on the skywest web site
2) I haven't looked at the latest awards but in May they were transfering newhires effective Nov 1
3) They're really short FO's. Maybe just a month or two

You don't want to go there. Nobody will ever hire again you because you are anti-alpa, and you will be bored with your 15-17 days off per month. :sarcasm:

I would imagine 3-4 months for SLC, come on over!

Is it worth going to the career fairs if you are under time? I have 600 hours 500 of which is multi... is it worth going to "network" or get to know the company... or are they just looking for people meeting mins. Also how firm is the company on the 100 hr instrument... I only have 80. Last but not least what goes on during the skywest "job fairs"? thanks

Never hurts to go. In fact, when you DO meet the mins, you might be able to remind them that you were interested long before you were even elligible to apply.

Plus, you never know who you're gonna be talking to. I know guys here (Pinnacle) that went to a job fair, wound up talking to the chief pilot and got an interview without meeting mins. A lot of times, the chief pilot has the authority to waive minimums.

It never hurts to network. Never.

It doesn't work that way at Skywest. If you don't have the mins, you will be sent home within the first five minutes. And we are hard on the instrument.

1- In the past they have done both email and phone calls. I also agree with what the others have mentioned. If there is a open house in your area that is a good option. That said, if you are already at Comair, from what I read in the other posts, I would bet they call you in short order. They need people right now.

2- Like the other guys mentioned you might get SLC quickly, sometimes out of training. BUT that is not always the case. In other words it could happen right out of training or you might be somewhere else for a few months or even more. Just be prepared for that contingency. Not sure how many Brasilia classes are planned. Right now we are short on Brasilia FO's and though the fleet is going to get smaller it is not going to happen overnight, sooooo I would not be suprised to see some more Brasilia classes. Just my .02 cents.

3- Same idea as #2. Could be a line holder out of training or you might be on reserve for a while.

Sorry to give such grey answers. Over the past three years I have seen both new hire transfers and their ability to hold a line/reserve go through almost yearly cycles of good and bad. If you want SLC you will ultimately get it. Sooner or later.

Is Comair really that bad, that you need to jump ship to SkyWest?

My sim partner (just got out on Thursday night) was a Comair shipjumper. From the things he told me about schedules, trip rigs, credits, etc., it really is that bad. I was astonished.

Every regional is represented at Skywest's groundschool. In my class we had guys from Wisky, Xjet, Horizon, Eagle, ASA, plus all the crappy regionals and even a Comair captain who was sick of commuting. It's so bad at Skywest that everybody jumps ship to work here.
