Jacket v. Coat

As far as the history of the leather versus the coat, it started when the first airlines wanted to dispell the barnstormer image. So they adopted naval titles and naval-like uniforms for the pilots to make passengers feel more confident and comfortable. I am prolly preachin to the choir but I just thought it was kinda cool.

In fact, my Delta doublebreasted coat is actually a Naval Officer blazer. Except for the 'widget' on the buttons.

I had my hat in my bag one day and my coat on in the America West terminal and these old guys kept running up to me and saying "Wow! You've got to be the youngest Admiral I've seen!".

WTF? OH! The coat. Aaah!

Ahh those are really nice looking leather jackets, I guess if you walked in dressed like this \/ \/ then you would have the TSA all over ya.

I once had to do a double and triple take when we carried a jetblue pilot who was in a leather jacket, no hat, and wearing a gotee!! No offense to anyone, but i thought it was a ramper handing me a load manifest, and not a Jumpseater!

Doug I would call that intimidation and not image.

I guess at 6'1 and 260lbs I don't need a jacket, tie and hat to look intimidating.

I have removed passengers before and I didn't have a jacket or hat on at the time. They didn't give me any trouble.

I learned this from a bouncer. There is a way to look someone in the eye that lets them know that you are just crazy enough to take them on, and they back off almost every time.

My buddy who used to fly for World Airways once told me he purposly looked mean for his passport picture because they fly to communist countries and he didn't want any crap from customs/immigration.

You think that pic looks mean, you should see me when I'm mad , I was in a good mood that day!

ok, that expression reminds me of the dude in Planes Trains & Automobiles, you know, at the STL airport when they're out front and Steve Martin gets punched by the taxi guy? "Get your car out of here!!! GET IT OUT OF HERE!"

THAT'S the look.

Dang right! And I purposefully did not use the "Jabba the Hut" chin picture!

Figure I might meet you in *real* life someday.

6'-1" & 260# has me a little worried.

Very little.
