I've made up my mind about making up my mind...

You aren't working here so you don't know the kinda BS our pilots deal with on a daily basis. Our management sucks, crew scheduling is heartless, dispatch is clueless, and maintanence is lazy. Last night we came close to a shutdown in flight because of an engine indication and what does dispatch tell us to do when we are less than 30 miles from our destination? GO BACK TO NY WE DONT HAVE MAINTANENCE THERE! Hmmm yeah ok a**whipe lets fly back 150miles with a questionable engine. So when we land at our safest suitable airport (per the checklist) and call up, we get a earfull from company. I'm not going to bow down to the company to do whats easier and cheaper for them, if you do the FAA will bite you in the tailcone.

Preach it brother!:yeahthat::nana2:

My biggest problem is, I dont really know what I want out of my career. Do I want to be a 787 international Capt or be happy with smaller domestic stuff? I don't really know.

As I see it you have two problems here 1) You haven't set a goal. If you don't set a goal, you can't decide on a course of action to get there. Figure out what you want to do, then start making career decisions. You have to know where you're going in order to figure out how to get there. 2) Don't try to make your job/career a source of happiness. Find your happiness in your life outside of work. That's not to say you can't enjoy what you do, but don't be dependant on it for your happiness.

I guess I put it wrong, of course I have goals. If I didn;t I never would have gotten this far! My issue is that both Colgan and RAH both have the good and the bad and for a while I didn't know which out weighed the other. Before the vote I was set to stay, I was looking and a quick upgrade and ALPA was about to be in house, now the chief pilot is telling me upgrades are slowing, 2000tt needed, either street captains or parking airplanes, and we are going to get it in the rear from PNCL. Its hard to not lean the other way with whats going on over here.

I hate this
I feel your pain... I was pretty dead set on Colgan too... until now. In the grand scheme of things, is it really all that bad to "goof off" a couple years at a crappy regional to get PIC time then move on to something better? I'm thinking that I might still look at Colgan in that light and see what happens after I get some time. Other than the initial 1year contract, is there any longer commitment required at Colgan that Im not aware of??!

Good luck with whatever you decide!!!!

It's not really a matter of 'goofing off'... airline flying is airline flying- the level of diligence remains the same. It's more a matter of 'how much longer can I put up with this?'

There are a few posts in the 'ALPA at Colgan' thread about some of the stunts the company has pulled lately. See for yourself.

I feel like John Kerry with the flip-flopping, but I called RAH and told them I can make the september class. I made my list of pros and cons and Colgan woulda won if not for the ALPA turnout. I feel I made the best decision for me and my QOL. Thanks to all for their advice and support, especially Mark and Matt for hearing me bitch and moan about what the hell I was gonna do! You guys are great and I wish nothing but the best for you. Now all I gotta do is call TB and let him know, that should be as cool as pleets on jeans...:buck:

Congrats Chris! :nana2:

Let me know how the CP call goes.....I'm kinda curious to hear his reaction (I hope you tell him it's 'cause of ALPA). I've heard we've had the floodgates open since the 21st.....can't confirm this, however. Also, keep us posted on your training over at RAH.

I'm sure it's a relief to have finally made a decision...regardless of which side you chose.

So its a done deal. Got the confirmation from RAH about my class on 9/10 and emailed the CP my letter of resignation. I sent Dot a personal message too because I've always liked her and thought it'd be nice. I called TB and told him and he said he was in a meeting and he'd get back to me, but I heard frustration in his voice. We'll see what happens when he calls back!

A really good friend of mine is a Capt at Seaborne. Overall, he seems to like the lifestyle a great deal. Pay is rough for FO's though.......it's expensive in the islands.

Sorry I'm a bit off topic... But could you give us some idea what the pay is. I've been looking at this kinda job for some time and it sounds awesome if you ask me!
