"It's not always about the pay, I have a lot of friends who are airline pilots, and they love it."

Didn't the Pope say "No way, bro!" to contraception? I thought it was a highly Catholic population there.

He did and yes it is. But that's just one cab drivers opinion, the church is always good for quick advice... but for financial assistance? Good Luck these days.

To be honest I sometimes fear parts of the US will look like the shantytowns in Manila someday.

Someday? Ever been to east St. Louis?
Yeah but it's still not the same, I also used to live off of 54th st in Miami (near Little Haiti). Most people refer to these places in the US because of the high crime rate. In MNL it's not so much that it's dangerous, it's the lack of running water, open sewers in the street, tin roofed shacks stacked on top of each other and half the population sitting on the corner asking for money. First thing I saw off the airport was a topless woman sitting on the street corner breast feeding two babies in a busy street. The third child was a toddler and was taught to stand up, smile, and say "money please" in English. I've never seen anything like that in the US.

True, for some people. But for those in aviation? They'd either have to be stupid, or well... Stupid. Lots of better ways for getting "Benjies" than being in this business.

Life is hard. Being stupid makes it harder.

Yikes. If I didn't know any better, I would have thought Roger Cohen himself wrote that propaganda piece!

That said, despite the negative stuff that many pilots like to spew about the flying profession, we all know it and management knows it that most pilots will still wake up every day to come fly those planes just so that they can get their fix! ;)

Better there than at a Convention/Symposium of Part 141 Universities being told why I'm lucky to have graduated from the program at ABC Univ. and why I should be so thankful and appreciative to have my "awesome job" and hence give more back to the Alumni Association because 100k over four years wasn't enough. Whew, and breathe...

All I gotta say is that between both of my office-type jobs, everyone complains, and everyone is stressed. That and the the work doesn't end when you go home. A job is a job.

You may as well be sentencing him to death. :)
I'm not sure if it's just how it worked out for us this month, but I have four (count 'em, four) long-ass BFL overnights this month. I'm not overly happy but it beats reserve. And three of them have Yuma overnights too. The other one has a (long) one at headquarters.

(It's still better than reserve.)

I used to have a crash pad right back in the day across the street from the terminal at Yuma, just about a 1/4 miles down Avenue F that runs along the north side of the field. Shared it with some Mesa 1900 guys and a couple of Wings West Jetstream guys. Got to know the area real well! :)

Too many 1900 guys in the same area means your probability of finding a dead hooker skyrockets.
