Items every pilot should carry

I'm not entirely sure about this one, but is dramamine legal to fly on? Considering that it makes you drowsy I'd think no. Maybe we should ask the resident AME.

I dunno, my dad always has some dramamine in the airplane. It's for my mom though! She never flies without it :)

Pilots cannot fly while taking it, but I think he was talking about for his passengers.

I carry a headset, chart or two and a pencil. If I'm not feeling too frugal I'll throw in a granola bar and flashlight.

one .45 caliber automatic
two boxes of ammunition
four days concentrated emergency rations
one drug issue containing: antibiotics, morphine, vitamin pills, pep pills, sleeping pills, tranquilizer pills
one miniature combination Russian phrase book and bible
one hundred dollars in rubles
one hundred dollars in gold
nine packs of chewing gum
one issue of prophylactics
three lipsticks
three pair a nylon stockings

Seriously though in addition to all that stuff thats been mentioned already I think you can't have too many flashlights, pens and paperclips.

The last half of your list looks like you want to be prepared for an encounter with a Russian tranny.:sarcasm:

"Boys it looks like we're gonna go toe to toe with the Ruskies in nuclear combat"

I think a GPS is MUCH more useful than a transciever. If you have a complete electrical failure, I'm not going to care about talking with anybody; I care about knowing where I'm at. ATC can still see your primary target and will clear traffic out of your way if you go lost comms. But if you lose your nav radio's and STILL can't reach ATC on your transciever you're fux0r.

I think I carry with me:

-Strainer
-Leatherman
-Flashlight
-Tire pressure gauge
-Extra pens
-Intercom
-Jepps for the local area
-Kneeboard
-TONS of extra battery's
-Note paper to write on
-I had a yoke clip until I lost it

That's pretty much it. I don't carry a ton of stuff with me.

Heck my flight case is filled to the brim with NOS charts I dont have room for much more than a flashlight and my ops specs.

On a side note what is the cheapest one could get away with in buying a GPS for that backup insurance?

I understand the feeling on the charts. Only carrying three is a nice change. And good god did the paper get white or what?>

I had an Lowrance Airmap 500 for a long time that worked really well. I think you can pick up the grey scale one for like $350 off of Marv Golden.com now that the color ones are out and drove down the price of the old one.

They make you carry your ops specs with you? And speaking of, does your company let you carry a hand held as a backup?
