I've lost 2 well thought out replies because I timed out before hitting the reply button.



I spent no more than 10min typing it out..... arrggghhh

It's a good habit to compose lengthy messages in some external application and then paste it into the browser. I typically use Wordpad for this. For shorter messages, I at least select all the text and copy it to the clipboard before submitting it.

The second idea is what I use too, and seems to work well. The think I can't understand is why:

A) it times out in the first place, and

B) When you get the timed-out or whatever error message comes up...when you hit the back button on the browser, all your text is gone. When at other times, you can go to another page, go back on the browser to the reply page, and any text you types is still there.

Could it be a proxy timeout?

I haven't seen this behavior at JC. Some websites may send a "no cache" in the http headers or require that the page be revalidated against the server.

Yeah not a terribly big deal just that it happened once, so I retyped everything and when it happened again I lost it all for the second time.

I did get an error message, not sure what it was... I tried the back button but the text was gone.

We're not running the 'no cache' function in the header and the cookie timeout is set pretty high. I'll throw in a support ticket and see if they have any other ideas.

Thanks Doug. Yeah first time it's happened to me, and I know I've spent more time replying than the 10min I did last night. Anyway, doesn't seem to be a recurring problem but will let you know if it happens again.
