Hawaii airline tells pilots to return $4,000 bonus

I think $180,000 is a lot cheaper than the ill-will the company will have from their pilots over this, I would be pretty upset about this, especially if I already spent the money thinking, "MAN! What a GREAT company, a bonus! Alright!" I mean, look at it this way, if it costs $20,000 to train a pilot, all it takes is 9 guys to be ticked off enough to start looking for new employment over this for this to be a bad investment...

Boy if I worked there I'd just give them the finger and walk away, and de-authorize my bank access before they tried to yank the dough.

I mean sure, the bonus is contingent upon getting the new airplanes, but it seems to me like this did not happen in good faith.

It will take about a million dollars to repair the damage caused by $180k. Twenty years from now they will still be know as the airline that made everyone return their Christmas bonus. Little Jimmy needs new shoes too!

Sometimes I think I'm smarter than most. Right not I'm sure of it. What are they thinking?

I would venture to guess that it's some version of "Man, our institutional investors are going to LOVE this...we're playing HARDBALL with these blue collar meatpuppets, and what are they gonna do about it, huh?"
