Exactly how was the aircraft warned 10 times? Guard? Does the Russian plane even monitor Guard? Or for that matter, does it even have a second radio? Obviously the Turks do not have access to the Russian strike frequency.

Probably over Guard, as I doubt the Russians were talking to the Turks or even thought they needed to.

I don't know how much of a warning would have been given or whether it was, but there's an easy chance it could be missed. When the USN cruiser USS Vincennes shot down Iran Air 655 in 1988, they also sent out multiple warnings that the Iran Air flight never heard sadly. So just because warnings are given doesn't mean they are received.
 
Yeah, I have received multiple guard warnings from Iran in my life, almost un-intelligible due to heavy accent (though you can tell they are pissed), and have always just de-selected guard. I guess I would have been pretty peeved had they shot me down.

Yes, the rest of the world knows about 243.0, too, and regularly sends out warnings to all kinds of aircraft from many countries. I've had Guard calls from Iran and Syria before like @///AMG.

I am glad he is safe. I was concerned that he might have fallen into the rebels hands. Considering the sickening way they behaved with the deceased pilot, having a live pilot in their possession, I just could not imagine how he would have been treated. These people (and I am referring to all terrorists here) have no respect for the dead and the living mean even far less to them.

Really? That's interesting, I really don't have enough knowledge on a lot of the matter to discern what's true and what's false, I just appreciate he seems to report what's going on than put some type of spin on it for the most part, but maybe that's just relative to the rest of the site.

Russian pilot couldn't hear the warnings over the chorus of, "yeeerrr on guaaaaarrrrdddddd" "guaaaarrrrrrrrddddddde!" And "livin' the dream!" from the Damascus Express guys.

I think he's well intentioned, but usually inaccurate or simply wrong....particularly about arguments for acquisitions stuff, capabilities, and threats.

Agreed. I've found a number of flat out wrong crap in some of the stuff he's written. But if he's called out on it by those even in "the know", he gets quite defensive in his blog, instead of taking the criticism and learning something. Which earns him basement dweller status.

Ever since that joke of an Operation Provide Comfort/Northern Watch post-Desert Storm, where we were protecting the Kurds from Iraqi aggression, while the Turks were bombing those same Kurds, often while refueling from our KC-135s in the process.

The Turks are doing the same thing now, attacking Kurd Peshmerga forces with their jets inside Syria who are fighting ISIS, while we're trying to provide CAS to those same forces. Which to me, makes Turkey allies with ISIS. Problem is, we're flying out of the Turkish bases.

Today, Turkey says Russia bombed a Turkish "aid convoy" close to the Syria/Turkish border (aid to who? ISIS?).
7 KIA, 10 WIA reportedly.

Turkey has resumed bombing Kurd targets..... across border in Syria

The few times I've engaged him on subjects where I thought he was inaccurate or drew incorrect conclusions, he acted similarly. Unfortunately, he's a blogger who has delusions of grandeur that he is a nouveau Bill Sweetman, and doesn't like it when anyone tells him otherwise.

Occasionally he prints some very interesting topics, but his fanboying over certain aircraft just torpedoes any semblance of impartial journalism he'd like to have.

Even I as a definite outsider to military aviation have picked up a real fanboy vibe from the few articles of his that I've read. Occasionally entertaining, but I wouldn't let his work influence, say, my opinion on military procurement.
 
The surviving SU-24 crewmember was the jets WSO/Navigator, who landed in a remote area and evaded until being recovered by a Syrian special ops team. The pilot was shot dead in his parachute while descending, and landed amongst enemy (rebel/ISIS, all the same) forces.

"[Capt] Murakhtin [SU-24 WSO/Nav], speaking in televised remarks from the Russian base in Syria where he was taken Wednesday, said he was fully confident their plane didn't veer into the Turkish airspace, "not even for a single second."

"As a navigator, I knew every hill there and could determine location even without instruments," after flying numerous combat missions in the area, he said.

He denied Turkey's claim that its jets made repeated warnings before opening fire. "There haven't been any warnings, neither radio, nor visual," he said, adding that the Turkish jets could have flown a parallel course to demand that the Russian plane change direction.

Dressed in combat fatigues and speaking with his back to the camera, he said he was anxious to keep flying missions from the base "to pay them back for my commander."
