Is UPT a possibility...?

Hey everybody,

So I just got my scores back... highly disappointing on some of them. So I'm just looking to see if these can be competitive at all.

Pilot:93
Nav: 67
Acad Apt: 70
Verbal: 87
Quant: 48 (ouch)

No PCSM yet... I take that in two weeks.

In addition, I have my CFI, I am an F-16 crew chief for the CO ANG (where I would love to stay at), Top Graduate of Basic Military Training for my class of 700, graduated with a 3.5 GPA, and am 20 years old. Thanks!
 
It depends. Truthfully, no one can answer your question with any truly accurate answer. Anyone that claims to may as well be working the sports book at a Vegas casino. Make the applications and you'll find out. People have been accepted with far better and far worse that what you have.
 
2x. I wouldn't go through the agony of war-gaming your applications (like that goofy matrix over at WantsCheck). Just apply and go with it.
 
The only way you'll know is by applying. Going ANG, there are a lot of applicants with high scores (i.e. mhcasey) especially at fighter units; but since you're already with the unit that will definitely help.

Take the TBAS and get a 90+ PCSM and I think you'll definitely be competitive. Scores matter but only so much so round out your package with good LORs, extracurriculars, solid work history, leadership experience and potential, etc. and your scores won't seem as low as you think.

Assuming this was your first go at it, you can always retest.
 
I'd say you're definitely competitive enough to get an interview; then it's on you to sell yourself the rest of the way....

Don't sweat the scores. As long as they're above the minimums you're fine. The interviews will be where you shine through your scores.

On a more serious note, 20 years old? I believe that a Bachelors degree is a requisite any military aviator except for the army.... Are you just a whiz kid who graduated early, or what?
 
Yeah, I graduated early. I took college courses for my junior and senior year of high school and graduated high school with an associates... and to think I only took the college classes for the 3 hour school day, haha.

In that case. Go ahead. Make sure you stay reserves, I am looking for an active duty slot in FY12.
 
Don't worry, I plan on staying guard, since I have some career goals outside of the military that are completely unrelated to flying in every way possible. Thanks for all the quick responses too!
 
Now, if I may completely hijack your thread.....

Last night I had this crazy ass dream that I was in UPT. We spent 1 week learning the basics of flight in the T-6ii, and then went straight to formation aerobatics. It was awesome and terrifying all at once.

Then I woke up from the dream and decided to schedule another exorbitant lesson of practice instrument approaches in a 30-year-old cessna 172. Nothing like waking up and catching a nasty whiff of that unmistakable stench that we call reality. :insane:

PCSM: 95

So that coupled with my scores, what do you think?

I know a guy who was barely 21 when he soloed a T-45C for the first time.....youngest guy in my class by at least 5 years (more for most of us)

I got in with a 91 and not as many hours...but it all comes down to the interview. I was told I would have to wait by outsiders because of my age (24) when I interviewed but I got a slot. However being that you're 20/21, you may fall into that boat of guys that could go in three or four years from now. But what do I know, I'm just at the start of the whole thing!
 
It all depends . . . just go for it; I'd take the AFOQT again if you're passed over the first time around..

Talk about this with the dudes doing the hiring. Mine said that they would hire the most qualified individuals, regardless of age.

The other applicants must have sucked just enough to make me look good, and I was hired at 21.
 
I figured I would get an opinion on my recent AFOQT scores and my prospect of OTS for Navigator.

Pilot: 82
Navi: 83
Acad: 90
Verbal: 86
Quant: 83

GPA: 3.06/Non-Tech degree
Age:23

What do you all think? :dunno:
