Is there anyone who work as an FAA Aviation Safety Assistant?

I am trying to figure out what does an Aviation Safety Assistant at the FAA does, as this may be a potential job I want to get hired after I graduate college in a few months. I talked with a friend of mine who works for the FAA and she will get back to me on this particular position eventually.

At first I thought about becoming an FAA Aviation Safety Inspector, until I realized that I need either a commercial pilots license or an A & P mechanic license to become one, both of which I don't have. I recently learned about the FAA Aviation Safety Assistant from my friend who works for the FAA and I am trying to see what it takes to get that particular job.

I heard that you don't need a pilot or mechanic license to work as an Aviation Safety Assistant. Does that mean I would not need an FAA medical certificate to work as one?

What about education and background requirements?

Salary?

Anything I should know about this position?

Let me point you at an open announcement that sounds like it might perfect for you:

https://www.usajobs.gov/GetJob/ViewDetails/360360700

Check that out and note that (A) it's in Washington D.C. and (B) it closes in a couple days, so you would need to hurry. I'm not sure if they will require you to have the degree to apply or if they would hire someone who is just about to graduate, but it sounds like it's worth pursuing.

I think your friend will be better at answering all of your questions, but if she leaves you with any unanswered questions, let me know and I'll see if I can find the answer for you.

Make sure you really beef up those short essays. A computer picks out key words and assigns it a score before a human reads it.

They're basically clerical/secretarial/admin folks. Answer phones, file papers, computer work, etc.

I suppose it could lead to an ASI job, but it's not common. Two different skill sets.

No medical is required. It's not a flying job. It's a stretch to call it an aviation job.

ASAs are usually GS-6s. Look at the GS pay scale to see what the pay is. It varies based on location.
