Is there a moving map aviation GPS app for Android?

I've been using Avilution's Aviation Maps on an Android tablet for a couple months now. Data subscription is $5/month. I love it and have no complaints. The developer is very active and responds to personal email quickly and actually does what he says he'll do. It's intuitive and loaded with thoughtful/useful features.

I cannot really imagine using a phone for much navigation but I suppose as a backup it'd be fine.

You can also check out OpenFlight GPS as a basic aviation moving map with really low cost for data updates that might be perfect for a phone. I haven't really tried it yet but seems to get good reviews.

+1 for Avilution. I've been using it on a 7" Tablet and it's great! Well worth the $4.95 a month subscription. If you have access to wi-fi or a 3g connection it will pull up current weather, nexrad, TFR, and airmet/sigmet data and transposes the information onto sectionals and enroute charts. It will also gives you access to AFD and approach information via a split screen option, which is really handy.

I got avilution maps last year and it looked okay but found it limited on my droid phone. When it was IFR and I got a route change it was too hard to change routes, screen was too small, I cant remember what else but now I am back to a droid phone I will give it a second try, but think it is questionable with anything smaller than a full sized pad.

I have a nook color, cracked with a BT GPS I will try it out. The IPAD with Foreflight is worth the money for sure.

Hey rframe , what kind of tablet do you have? Who are you getting data from for 5 bucks?

I'm thinking about getting a 7" samsung tablet with Avilution for making a digital kneeboard for myself. Thanks

I've got a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10". I wasn't sure if I wanted a 7", 8", or 10" when I bought mine. For a knee board a 10" works pretty nicely, fits right on your leg. If you want to do any sort of a yoke mount, then a 7" would be the way to go.

If you get Avilution through Google Play the only option is $75/year. But if you just go to Avilution's web site and install the app from there, then you can just pay $5 per month for their data subscription service.

10" not bad on the yoke. I use the iPad on a RAM yoke mount horizontally and it doesn't block my view or get in the way in the 172 or the Mooney

I would say that Avilution and other moving map software works best on a tablet platform. I've tried it on my phone and like FlyingScot said, it's pretty difficult to see anything. Even the 7 in tablet I have can seem small at times. However, it's a perfect size if your looking into getting a yoke mount.

Cool thing is, the subscription is good for multiple devices per single pilot. So you can run the software with your phone and tablet if you have the need to do so.

I used Avilution for a while on my HTC EVO and my Asus Transformer and really liked it. My employer now provides me with a subscription to Garmin Pilot, and I really like it. Far and away more features than Avilution. The killer feature to me is synchronization. I can leave my iPad at work, plan a route on my Transformer at home, and have it on the iPad when I get to work. All my aircraft profiles are synchronized between devices as well.

thanks for the info I'm going to start with avilution tonight by getting it on my new HTC EVO 4G. I'm on the hunt for a Samsung tablet. My birthday is in a couple weeks, "Dear Santa" ;)

A cool new feature google updated is the google track application. It isn't a moving map but it lets you record a flight and shows your path (even on google earth) and some stats about it. I think foreflight has a similar feature, or at least I've seen something like this on an ipad, so figured some android people would like this!

Here are some pics of it
