Is there a moving map aviation GPS app for Android?

I took the plunge and ordered a Droid X today. Coincidentally, I got a phone call from someone saying he was considering buy a Luscombe at my home airport in Sonoma, California. He's out here for a few weeks, but lives in Daytona Beach, FL. I gave him a rundown of what it will involve, and he's going to think it all over.

Normally, I do these flights dead reckoning, but it would be nice to have a back up. I'm wondering if anyone knows of a good aviation GPS for Android. I wouldn't mind spending $100 for it. I've checked out WingX, but it doesn't have a moving map.

[Not an Android vs. iPhone thread. srsly.]

I have the original droid, and the battery sucks when GPS is enabled. Don't know how well the X is, but if its anything like my phone, save your money.

True, the battery life is not good when the GPS is enabled, but there are plenty of other things to make up for that. I say it was a good purchase. As far as the app, I'm pretty sure nothing has been developed yet. I've looked myself and haven't found anything, but I might have missed something.

Rmaps isn't aviation specific but it does have the option to show you your location over vfr sectionals/ low enroute etc. maps.

Thanks, that sounds good enough. I want a last ditch backup, and the ability to follow a pink line would be sorta nice.

Yeah there is no navigation, it is simply a map app that has the abilty to display your location on the map. I has a ton of different map options though.

I use an app called OruxMaps which isn't aviation specific either but you can download a sectional or an enroute chart and use it as a reference.

you can also set up waypoints if you want and that way you can plug in your airport and have it as a reference with bearing to it and actual course then just make sure they both match.

If you are worried about battery life just invest in a cigarette lighter adapter for the phone.

I'm loving Rmaps! Great tip. Any idea how to download and import a sectional or high enroute chart? All I can use is what I've loaded until the buffer is full.
