Is it true?

Is the other still there? You know the one I'm talking about...
Bro that jerk pinked me on my crj type because the FMS said check position. Back drop was all throughout training all the instructors would pause the sim when it said that and fix it. I got Keith for the checkride and when the sim does it after I had already completed everything and was on downwind for my last approach he goes postal. After the checkride his line was "YOU CALL YOURSELF A CAPTAIN AND YOURE FLYINN A $40 million dollar plane with pax and you don't know where your going eta". Yelling the whole time. I walk out going what just happened?? I go the recheck the next day and the new instructor cussed him out and signed me off with no checkride given. I can talk about this now because it's been 10 years and idga anymore. Problem is guys coming up at OO think this is the norm then get warped going to their next gigs.

Did you hear about his interview recall at WN? Lol

I heard ST was mercurial, but the two times he was my instructor/examiner he was pleasant. Thankfully this was post-divorce.

I'm Left, my wife is right. Many many a morning I've angrily rolled over and asked "Jesus Christ are you going to work today or not?!"

I've checked with ST on 4 occasions, including my newhire. People were freaking me out, saying to call in sick, that he was terrible, exc.. I never witnessed or experienced anything I'd remotely consider unfair. No doubt he has the framework of someone who at one time lived up to his reputation. I don't believe it to be true..anymore..at least not for the time being.

Mine has been working fine... Makes me wonder if I shouldn't have done that software update :/

Truth. It only broke down once during a demonstration last week.

I just left 1 day after EFB use had been authorized, but I had a couple of years of Jepp FD experience on my ipad when they inexplicably gave us a subscription key if we asked for it ("only to be used for reference!" Okay, wink wink).

In that nearly 3 year span, I think the Jepp app crashed on me maybe 3 or 4 times tops.

2 weeks of play on the Surface and it crashed on me 3 times and froze for a very long time at least once. I can't offer a substantive explanation, but the Surface version of Jepp FD just seemed like it was phoned in. Didn't inspire much confidence.

The other thing I noticed in that brief span was that if I left the Surface in on a dim screen setting from the previous night's flight, it was nigh impossible to login and select the brightness back up from that menu in a sunny cockpit. At least on the iPad you can just swipe up, even on the lock screen, to adjust the brightness.

I don't say any of this as an Apple fanboy because I was legitimately considering a Surface Pro for portable computing next year. Now I'm not so sure.

I'm on my third Surface and you're absolutely correct about it.

Part of my "Shutdown checklist" when we terminate a jet is "I'm not your mother but I'd suggest turning off night mode and turning your brightness up"

Unless you want to make the walk of shame to the lavatory, keep the doors unlocked and do it that way the next day.

Like I tell people who asked, it beats a heavy-assed flight kit and doing those ridiculous updates, but implementation could have been a lot smoother.

It seems... better than when I first used it, but the battery is atrocious. I can have it at a full charge, turn it completely off, and in a day or two it's totally dead when I go to turn it on. I know leaving things like this on a charger constantly doesn't help long term battery life, but what choice do you have as a reserve other than run the risk of being called and this thing is dead? Other random buggy things require you to power it down and power it up.. a lot, it seems like some people have worse luck with it than others. The battery thing is my biggest issue.

One thing I will say about the Surface is that Microsoft does give you "carte blanche" with the device. For better or for, and well generally the case, for worse.

In the end, it's fine and I only use it for manuals and jepps so I'm not the guy trying to run netflix in the lounge that keeps bitching about the interface.
