Is it "rude" to request a certain runway?

I have learned to get a feel for how busy the controllers are, and try to do everything I can to make their life easier when its really busy. But I have never had them deny any request they could legally allow, or comply with workload permitting. But my experience is limited to FL mostly, except for the occasional trip to GA, DC etc.
