Is it OK to ask ID90 questions here

After 15 years of flying corporate and not really wanting to travel in anything other than my Sprinter van I'm pretty short on knowledge for non rev. Anyway my trip involves and expensive hotel so I just bought tickets. It's easier and frankly a small portion of the cost of the rest of the trip.
Buying tickets is always the way to go. Standby blows. My last couple of years at the airlines I just bought first class tickets. Life was much better. Non-revving is stressful.

One thing I’ve noticed about a lot of foreign carriers, they don’t have the nonrev culture like we do in the US. Granted, half of it (or more?) are commuters.

If I was in the same position, I’d take the nonstop SEA to YUL. But if for some reason that doesn’t look good, go to YYZ Toronto and then it’s like a shuttle service to YUL. Or take an AS flight to YVR Vancouver and then hop on a flight to YUL.

It’s YUL, can’t be that hard to nonrev to from the west coast.

But I don’t blame you by playing it safe and buying tickets.

Aside from the occasional non-ZED available airline, we haven’t bought tickets in over 15 years of non-rev travel. Just did the Balkans for a month, rode in style over the ocean twice and spent about $400 total w/ taxes. Worth every penny we didn’t spend. Standby ain’t for everyone perhaps, but making good use of the single greatest benefit still rules.

@BEEF SUPREME, next time around you probably have access to myidtravel to list on AC. Fairly easy, download Staff Traveler to get more exact loads too.

Agreed. Staff Traveler is awesome. I wouldn't buy tickets to any major Canadian city. We have benefits on all the big Canadian boys. Nonrevving inside Canada is nothing like nonrevving inside America. SEA to YUL is at 945am on AC. I would attempt that first. Then after that, off to YVR or YYZ, or maybe even ORD and then on to YUL.

I don't see Montreal to SEA being non-rev central.

I'd have to leave a day early. I could maybe make it. Aside from having to reschedule my Sprinter annual maintenance. The 30th the only flight is going through YVR and I didn't want to risk a connection flying stby. Direct flights I'm ok with.

The business class standby ticket on AC is the same cost round trip as positive space. The standby coach is 1/2 price as positive space.

So trip overview if anyone cares. I left a day early to beat the snow. Listed and got first class. Boom. Did not beat the snow and it took about 3-4 hours to leave SEA because the deicers for AC put type 4 on first and 1 on second. Big oof. But good to know my shop isn't the only place in town that can't handle winter ops.

My first leg on the paid ticket cancelled. A couple of annoying phone calls and I was refunded. I also got a travel voucher for 200$ for AC. Montreal was Le Fun.

Leg back home I paid 104 bucks of the voucher money for an exit row. At the last minute they put me in 30F for weight and balance. LOL. First Class was full and there was even a lady with a screaming baby up there. Haha. It filled fast too. From 4 open to nothing in just a few hours. For a guy who likes to travel primarily in my van it was a good learning experience.

Also I stayed 5 days in the parking garage. Its normally free but I had to pay 34 bucks for overstaying into 5 days by a few hours. Kind of lame but again. Big learning time.

Did you have a “date” in Montreal? They like those there.

So do you list based on cabin class? As in, can one list for Business on an INTL flight, for example? We're looking at randomly taking the boys to Finland or Iceland or maybe just whatever has open seats, during my week of vacation in feb.

Some airlines have business class ZED deals, but not that many. If you list for business class and it's full, they will automatically downgrade you to economy, but you won't get a refund on the fare difference.

The StaffTraveler app is your friend for checking loads ahead of time.

Thanks Bob! Also, are ID90 and ZED the same thing?
