Is it Just Me or......

Is it just me or has the economy brought NEW pilots into the contract arena, and the have undercut, Mid-Sized, Super-Mid, and Light day rates?

Luckily I have two companies I still fly for and am getting my standard rate which use to be Average to High Contract day rate.

I wish we could sit these clowns down and tell them that flying a GV for $300.00 a day doesn't sit well with contract guys, and that it will come back to haunt them down the road. Oh well I am just pissing I guess.

That sucks, a guy I know gets $1,500 a day.

Not Quite, a Super Mid should deliver anywhere from 800 - 1500 a day for new equipment.

You forget as a contract pilot, you are expected to keep yourself current, pay your own taxes, and pay for your own insurance. Its really ridiculous. I won't tell you where most of them are coming from either.

Not to mention that you are usually not guaranteed any days of work.

I'm "new" to the contract world, sorta...no under cutting here. They needed someone and I was the only one there, so I got the gig. $300/day for a gee-whiz is a little ridiculous.

As has been said; what goes around comes around. If the contract pilot doesn't care about the quality of the industry on the whole, then he won't care about the quality of work he is doing. If the aircraft owner can recognize the lack of quality and professionalism, they'll be out the door. If they don't, then, well, you don't want to be there anyway.

That's what we used to pay for contract SIC's on the CJ1. It is ridiculous to work for that rate on a GV.

I know someone that may be flying a ferry flight which will be about 14 hours long. Thing is that he will not get paid much, has to pay for his airline ticket, hotels and food. I don't think some people understand what they are doing. I told him what he should be getting for compensation ($600-$800, free airline tickets, free food and hotel" and got the response "but it is 14 hours of flight time" :chair:

im getting into this as well...and when putting together a crew i got the feeling that you must become on with the contract pilots, otherwise you're just some outsider...

its absolutely true...with so many people out of work and hurting for pay, alot of the new entrants into the contract world have completely saturated the pool of available pilots and as such the market does not support the daily compensation of even a year ago.

My company wants to pay a captain on a super mid $200 a day. Thats just insane! Whats more insane is that there are many that are willing to do it.
