Is commuting possible at Colgan?

It was asked in another forum and I'm curious as well. Is it possible to work for Colgan and commute or do you basicaly need to live at your domicile? Any Colgan folks who can answer? It pretty much is the deal maker/breaker.
 
they're a regional right? i dunno if i'd count on commuting to/from a regional.. the major's are much easier on commuting from what i know.

it just depends on whether there's jumpseat availability and/or cabin sharing allowed..but i bet if it's a regional, you'd be at the itty bitty bottom of hte list compared to all the other employees.
 
Yep, they're a regional, and judging from the schedule I've seen it'd be just about impossible to commute. Oh well.
 
A friend of mine is an F.O. for Colgan in Hyannis and lives in Vero Beach, FL. He does commute but it eats up quite a bit of time off.

So, it is possible to commute.....but it's not easy. Besides, the vertical movement w/in the company happens real fast......so, you can get the base you want w/in a couple months...and have the seniority to hold it.

Yes, many are based near DC.......Manassas, VA (company HQ) is just outside DC to the West. Also some in Norfolk, VA....not nearly as close, but w/in a couple hour drive.

Hmmm, interesting, I would do it but only if I could be based in the DC area. I guess you only find that out after you go through training though.

I still need a couple hundred more hours though so I guess I don't have to worry about it at the moment.
 
There was an ex-colgan guy in my indoc class. He was about to upgrade and they moved him for the 6th time due to base closing and openings so he gave up, quit, and came here.

Yeah, I think I am always going to be more of a "location guy" than "company guy"... At least until the pay starts to influence my decision, and I don't see that happening at the regional level.

I very much agree about the position guy statement. I'm in DC now and I'd like to stay here. (yes, it's about a girl

). I'm starting to look ahead for 135/regional positions based out of this area... lemme know if you come up with anything and I'll do the same. I know a guy who flys 1900s out of Boston for Colgan and commutes up there from IAD every day... he said it wasn't too bad.
