iPad glitch grounds two dozen American flights

From what I have heard re-download of the Jepp FD product is required. Hence wifi access is needed.

We're not even allowed to update our Surfaceses except on a particular schedule and I don't think on an active pairing. I have to look.

But if we were to report every time a surface crapped the bed, it would be ALL SURFACE ALL DA TIME in the news.

If we DON'T update our iPads THE EXACT MOMENT A NEW REVISION COMES OUT a fed pops out of the O2 mask and takes your certificates.

But really we update pretty often.

American was the same company that asked tons of EMI groups why they couldn't plug unshielded cables directly into DC busses, got told why they couldn't, and did it anyway. Then tried to blame the manufacturer because the screens would flicker when the tablets were charging.

Does anyone in IT at American know anything about IT or is it just my grandpa saying "BAH HUMBUG! WHERE'S MY ROTARY PHONE!"

Correct. The Surface must be updated within 24 hours of signing in for a rotation, but once signed in, no updates are supposed to be done. The theory is, if the tablet craps the bed before starting, trade it in, but don't tempt fate while flying.

Does that include downloading Jepp revisions? Or just updating software/operating system?

I'll generally charge and update it (if the device is in the allowable upgrade window), turn it off and leave it in airplane mode until the night before my next trip.

The only thing I use it for is SouthernJets stuff and nothing else. Works "ok" for the most part. I still don't like it, but:

a) I didn't pay a cent for it.
b) They paid me to learn how to use it.
c) It's not mine.
d) Beats carrying Jepps and especially beats using the "ships set" with skeet, coffee stains, old man hairs, and highlights in places where obviously the previous user spend more time hilighting than actually reading… especially the part about NOT MAKING ANY DAMNED MARKS OR HIGHLIGHTS IN THE SHIPS MANUALS.

I'm not an iPad guy, but we have them for the airplane. I've had no problems with it. Works good, lasts long time.

Absolutely spot on, Derg. I use it the same way and give the same advice. :)

Ugh. Times like these I'm glad to be with an aircraft-installed Class III Nexis EFB with wifi-through GoGo capability.
