I'll bring the party hats....

You did notice that it's a 48 hour layover in CDG, didn't you? Also, as an extra, added attraction, we will be celebrating my birthday, which is on the 19th!

Cool!

I just did my first day of "Long Range Nav" (220) and let's just say I was a dog watching CNBC.

I understood 99% of it, but the 2 minute PPP kind of threw me! That MXP engine out procedure is nuts! I'll need lots and lots of help so be gentle. Where's the international lounge in CVG so I can meet the captain prior to the TOE? I figure he'll probably call or something.

48 hours in CDG. I think I can handle that! :)

It will all make sense once you've actually done it once or twice...

There's no real international lounge in CVG, just some briefing rooms down underneath the west end of "B" concourse...

Are you deadheading in that day or coming the night before? The Captain lives in CVG so he'll be meeting us at the airport, but if you're coming the day before we'll ride the van in together...

Umh, yeah... That's why you bid the ER...

Champs d'Elysee here we come!

Now I just have to convince the other F/O to jump off the trip and let me stay on... should be no problem as he's senior to me...

That's what the instructor said. Another Navy guy! :) it's really overwhelming but he kept reminding me that if I follow the international checklist and realize that I've got hours to figure it out, all's well.

Oh yeah, I've been there. Saw Kolshak walking out of there once and didn't do a whole lot to acknowledge his existence! :)

I'm thinking I might deadhead there the night before and get a super superior night of sleep because I've heard about six times to rest-up because the first TOE is very tasking. Or I might fly out the crack o'dawn out of PHX. I'm not sure yet as all of my travel arrangements start with a DH out of JFK because supposedly, I've relocated.

Hell yes.

Kristie might even tag along too, but it's mid-week so it may or may not happen. Spouses (spousae?) can't ride the crew bus, right? She's really good with the RER though.

Freaking awesome man!!!

I've ridden in the crew bus with the old man when I've been over. Never to CDG though, just FRA, MXP and FCO. It all depends on the transportation setup. All three times it has never been an issue, just give the driver a couple more euros and all will be kosher.;)

I know that dad has mentioned that at a couple of airports the bus picks them up planeside and takes them to a special immigration area and then to the hotel. That probably wouldn't work. But most just pick up curb side and shouldnt be a problem.

Kristie, if she comes along, might have to ride the RER down to C. Paris. I really need to ride with the crew, I think, in order to figure things out.

Paris is one of the few places in Europe spouses can't ride the crew bus because we get picked up and dropped off at the aircraft; we're usually on a pad in Paris because our terminal was the one that collapsed!!!

Kevin

That's what I figured. But she's checked out on the RER!

What is it, RER-B to Les Halles, then the Metro to Bir Hakim or St. Michele and then a short walk up to the Novotel or something like that?

Last time I was in Paris, I was a little tipsy on vin chaud. it turns out that the guy who did our LOE evaluation was the same captain that flew Kristie and I there! SMALL WORLD!

He was like, "I think I know you, did you fly to Paris over Xmas with a blond girl or something?" :)

Have fun Doug! I noticed you are flying CVG to CDG. KCVG happens to be my hometown airport! Love that place.

:( that sucks....i'm gonna try and come anyways cuz you only get one TOE (Madrid is probably too short of a layover this time, plus it's also during the week) and it'd be kinda cool to see him workin' it over the pond!

There are no international pilots based in CVG, all the int'l trips out of there are flown by JFK or ATL pilots.

Kevin

Kool, but why not just have all international flights depart out of JFK or ATL, and make CVG much like SLC. I.E. a domestic only hub with no international departs.

Wouldn't that be easier than deadheading crews to CVG?

Marketing doesn't tell us how to fly the airplanes, we don't tell them how to set the schedules!!! ;)

Kevin

Curious to what the credit hours are for those trips?

Generaly 0. Sometimes in the winter you'll have a 3 or 4 day layover because of schedule reductions which will have some credit on it. The international categories have the lowest credit times at the airline...
