Interview Recap

So basically it'd be tuff to make it work there......

I do not know where they top out out. The difference between Dispatcher I,II,III at the company I work at is pay rate, and how much experience you are bringing to the table. Typically it not JUST overall dispatch experience. If you have heavy jet, ETOPS, and international experience, along with maybe some experience with the 747's, then you are eligible for the other positions.
--For those wondering about Purchase, it is not the fact that you are looking for a house in the town of Purchase. It is the fact that it is located in Westchester County. It is one of the more expensive counties in the area of New York City. It is just far enough away from NYC that you are not living in a concrete jungle, but close enough to the city that you can benefit from using Mass Transit (Metro-North) to get into Manhattan. Purchase is also close to HPN, and one of the richest parts of CT. All the homes are mansions.

From what the MGR said anywhere outside a 2omin commute one can find reasonable housing.

Here is Atlas' Recap (expect a call within the week):

24 dispatchers
schedule: 5 on/3 off 5 on/2 off

The Mgr of Dispatchers called for the phone interview. I was asked the following questions.
1. Tell me about yourself and how you got involved in the dispatcher field.
2. Tell me something about your work that you dislike.
3. Tell me about a time you went above and beyond.
4. Tell me about your most recent pilot check ride and what you learned from it (pass or failed won't count against you).
5. Are you willing to relocate?
6. When would you be available to start?
Technical Q's (Sound pretty standard if you ask me)
1. What set of FAR's does Atlasfollow?
2. Who has operational control over domestic, flag and supplemental oeprations?
3. When do you need a destination alternate?

They require a pilot lilcense in order to get a dispatcher position? That's the first I've ever seen that.

IIRC I saw a Mesa post a few years ago that required at least a private certificate.

I don't think Mesa is hiring ATM, but when I worked for them as a dispatcher no license other than a dispatcher's was required. Of course, that's been quite a while ago - back in the late 90's.

Pinnacle's offer came in today and can't say that I'm impressed or insulted with being offered under 30k.

Well, MEM does have a fairly low cost of living. However, I would be a bit wary of getting on with Pinnacle right now because they are in some financial difficulty. I think they'll ultimately be fine, but if they did a Chapter 11 and cut back positions the last hired are the first furloughed.

My thoughts exactly!!

Today I made the call to Pinnacle and declined their offer. On to the next application...

No word on Atlas yet but from what I have learned is that they are trying to fill 4 positions and sounds like many people from Southern are applying. Miami has an inspection coming up and are slowing down on interviews. Should be a few weeks before I hear anything from them.

Thanks guys. I know its all a numbers game. I'm thankful that they gave me the opportunity to interview and get a feel for how those are done. The nice thing is is that I'm not desperate for a job so I can afford to wait, even though it would be nice to begin the new career.

Sorry to hear the news man. Quick question, why would people from Southern be jumping ship to Atlas? Is the pay that much better? Last I heard Southern paid pretty well and were growing, I almost considered leaving my current cushy job for them.
