Yeah, I am a very conservative person when it comes to finances, and I do appreciate this part. I know it frustrates people (rightfully so) at times as well, so there is a trade off. I also dig the smaller size, even if SEA is a huge base. I like seeing people again, flying a trip with someone I've already flown with, etc. And 100% on the convenience. I drive a couple hours to do CQ or a landings sim every now and then, rather than across the country. It is also the last airline I could ever imagine pulling out of the PNW. I think Delta is probably here to stay at this point in time, but you never know what an industry wide setback could cause. They did already pull the 7ER out during COVID, though I suppose that had more to do with their fleet restructuring than it did commitment to this base.

Not having to stay in a hotel for CQ is really nice. Finally the rule changed that allowed reserves to pick up seat subs on days off and I've snagged a few. It's great being 30 minutes from the training center. Kind of amazing that the training center location moved closer to my house after I bought it. Did not see that coming.

Now if only the van showed up on time in ANC when it's cold AF and the hotel has your rooms ready. One can dream.

I understand the (new) training center is pretty full service at this point, eh? Spent a lot of time there in initial training, when it was 4 sims, a vending machine, and a Keurig, and you had to call that dude up in the sim bay to walk down the stairs to let you in cause you couldn't badge in. They're doing FA training out of there now too? I'll say I was really happy to see that they are running nearly all MAX CQ, other than a couple random 801 FTC lines during my month. My legs love the MAX sim.

There is a lot more going on but food options are still pretty poor. I try to bring something from home still. The coffee machine runs out of stuff as the weekend drags on. Lots of construction going on just to the south in the same building. Dunno what that's about. Tried to look in there and it's blocked off and in what seems like early stages.

Also, you now look at the TVs with the schedule and find your name/sim and go to the corresponding briefing room that's associated with that sim number to start. I didn't know that this was the new system. So I just sort of wandered around until I found my instructor who seemed a bit annoyed I wasn't born with this knowledge.

Oh and praise the lord. After 4 long years my badge now opens the door. Huzzah.

Awesome, thanks for the gouge! Reminds me of old navy flight school sim building when I got scheduled with one of our real notorious "yellers" for the first time. His nickname was actually "Zeller the Yeller". I'm just wandering the hallway, and all of a sudden, this giant old dude screams out (in best drill instructor imitation) my last name, "GET OVER HERE!!!!!!" And off we went. Several sims later, I finally got him to laugh from either a joke of mine, or him just laughing at the ridiculousness of his own pretend act and something he had said. After that, we were cool. He was actually a big softie who really gave a •, I guess he just needed for you to prove that you could handle the insanity first. I also wasn't just born with knowing where to sit that day and wait.

I just find it odd. The last time that I had to go to Longacres was for upgrade training. We all just stood around in a general area until an instructor found us. Same as the Angle Lake training center. I had done several seat sub and a CQ at Angle Lake since upgrade. Sit and wait for an instructor and find any briefing room seemed to be the standard still. November of 2024 I got Longacres. So it had been about 17 or 18 months. It seemed odd to me that it was annoying to my instructor that I used the unwritten cultural procedure of waiting around for an instructor. I had showed up 10-15 minutes early since that fixes most problems. When I ran against show time I then started wandering and asking random instructors how to find where I was supposed to go.

Considering the background of many of the instructors it makes sense this is also how it seems to be done in the military. I'll still attempt to cooperate and graduate. Mostly I'm just happy my badge will let me in the building. Now I don't have to stand in the rain for 5-10 minutes and piss off a sim tech to open the door for me.

Does Boeing still have a sim center at Longacres? I want to find a 757 sim somewhere.

Longacres went from Boeing to Alteon and then back to Boeing, and then Alaska bought it. In think it's got eleven 737 sims in it now and maybe one empty bay.

I did my initial 717 training there in 2013. My loft was the last event in the sim before they pulled it out and moved it to Miami.

Yeah Boeing has been out of the big building for a number of years now. They had some BCA offices across the walking trail/apple orchards as of 2020, but I believe those have been closed and maybe sold. Could be wrong though.

Reality is vastly different

How so?

The badge didn't let you in the building? That was procedure from 2020 when I did MAX training until at least 2023 when I did my upgrade sims. I discussed it with several in management when I found a group of new hires waiting in the rain on a sim tech to open the door. They agreed that it left a bad first impression with new hires.

The new procedure that was developed without any notification to the pilot group of organizing the sim briefing rooms by simulator number? Not sure when that went into effect. It's possible I missed some kind of notification that this happened, but I doubt it.

To be fair, I think they did actually send out a notification mentioning that the badges work. Either a real one, or a BCP weekly a while back. But also, to be fair, it is hard to absorb the mass blast of notifications sometimes. For me, I open 10 in a row, and file them away into "try to remember this in another 60 days when you get back to work". That is sometimes optimistic thinking

Oh I remember the one about the badges working. It took 4 years for them to sort it out.

I just thought it was funny that the way we meet for sims and how that entire process went about was just expected to be tribal knowledge inside of about a year.

I mean, there’s a briefing room outside of each sim. I think they’re even labeled sim #brief/debrief. I don’t think it’s that hard to figure out.

The problem was the entire side of the building with additional sims I didn’t know about. It wasn’t open the last time I was there.

Fool me once…
