Interview at Pinnacle next week..what to expect?

That sucks. WorldFlight was wonderful. Easily the best system around.

Kudos to that. DUI and Worldflight were nice. I liked them much more than Sabre's Dispatch Monitor that I'm stuck with now. The LIDO system, which was being used by the Delta CR9 guys, was hated. I never got to get my hands on it, but everyone in the office preferred NWA's stuff.

I lived in Cordova which is next door to Germantown. By far one of the nicest areas in the Mem area. As far as the load planning goes, they did actually have load planners at one time who monitored all of the flights, but were removed due to cutbacks. When I was there it was pretty much automated. You're responsible for limting seats and determining min/max payload as well as labeling flights which were weight or balance critical. Unfortunatley, if they do run into a problem with a flight that is overweight or nose-heavy, etc, the dispatcher is the one to find the solution. Those CR2's are finiky little jets when it comes to balance. As long as you pay attention in training, it's no sweat. But you're really hustling on combo bad weather days with heavy loads. That is of course if they are still using NWA's Worldflight and DUI systems.

I think it's BS to require the dispatchers to do this in addition to all their other responsibilities. Companies do this, then later wonder why dispatchers vote in a union. Oh well.

Thankfully I have never had to deal with load planning. When crews call up saying they're in a forward CG issue, I just tell them to move the heavy weights to the back of the aircraft or go get some pallets and toss them in the back bin.

Just a quick recap, currently (based on hear say) that 4 dispatchers/3 soc managers and about half the crew schedulers will not be moving to IND.

Guess I'll stay in the hurry up and wait mode.

Sorry to say Cordova is kinda goin down the tubes. I live in Southaven, MS and it too is starting to show some signs of problems. I knew when they built that mall area in Southaven it would bring the elements down from Memphis. I got held up at gunpoint right in front of my house last summer. I plan on selling my house and moving farther south. If you plan to move to Memphis if you choose to live in TN you need to go East maybe Tipton County don't stay in Shelby County..If you go into MS go south either extreme south Desoto or Tate Counties. Also Colgan airlines just relocated here in MEM and they were looking for dispatchers not too long ago..

I know people like to knock Bartlett a little bit, but its an older population who just want a quiet community, and the Bartlett cops bring it.

It's funny I know a lawyer in Memphis and he said Bartlett has laws all it's own.. I guess they take no prisoners.

They don't put up with a lot. Bartlett is one of the "emancipated towns", so they run their own show.

It's not perfect here, but for our proximity to Memphis and the fact that one area on sycamore to our south that is a hot spot (until recently Memphis cops weren't around), we do well enough. If I remember right we are 6 or 8% in the state for violent crime, to compare Germantown is something like 2%. We just don't have the Germantown money in this community. I think if Memphis would take care of their own problems (which in fairness I've seen a LOT more cops south of me since the new mayors came in) we'd be a lot better off.

We can do a lot better I'm sure, but I've always felt like (I rented here for a while before I bought) this place has a real good shot at being a long lasting, safe community.

I too have noticed a difference with not just police patrols, but the attitude in Memphis in general since Willie left office. From what I can tell of local news and from his interviews, Wharton is really trying to clean things up and end a lot of the corruption that was in place under Herenton.

Yeah, as much as we are finding out now about King Willie, it seems bizarre that there this all didn't happen sooner. Do you know anything about this A.C. guy?

AC was Mayor of Shelby County from 2002 until he won the special election for Memphis Mayor. From his history with Shelby County and from what I have heard him speak on, he is very big on accountability, transparency, and responsibility of the local goverment... something we would never see from King Willie. :)

Yeah, it's just that the locals around here think AC is trying his best to grab up all the communities like Bartlett, Collierville, Arlington, Lakeland, and of course, Germantown, etc... and put them under Memphis control. It seems like he has no legal basis to do that, but folks around here believe it anyway. You have any opinion on the matter?

In the "gated" apartment community I chose to live in Cordova, a pregnant lady was held up at gunpoint for her purse and a couple were held up INSIDE there unit while they were robbed. Both happened in the short 8 months I lived there. If I were to do it again I would have gone east...long drive to work is worth my safety. Memphis was literally the first place I have ever lived where I felt I had to watch my back pumpng gas. Hence the phrase "stab and grabs" donned for gas stations in the area.

You should goto Pittsfield MA sometime. Or Worechester

You are right about watching your back..I am originally from Northern NJ. I always went into NYC since I was so close and I never felt as unsafe there as I do here. Like I said I never had a gun put in my face until I lived here. But I do know you have to weigh the good with the bad..Cost of living is lower here than where I am from and I have a lot of real good friends here that is what really keeps me here even though I can't stand the area.

OMG I HATED Willie...I had my doubts about Wharton but when one of his first jobs was to raid the Memphis Animal Shelter I started to gain respect for him..I hope he keeps it up. We don't need another Willie here. I still can't believe that buffoon kept getting voted in ..Kinda tells you the intellect of Memphis voters.
