Interview at Air Wisconsin

I would contest that you don't develop a correlative understanding of the majority of what you learn in ground school until you actually start flying on the line. For instance, you are required to know all of the icing limitations and procedures in training but its just a bunch of rote memorization until you actually start dealing with real icing in the airplane and the numbers really mean something.

I agree that training isn't that bad as long as you do the required reading and studying, but it would make it easier if you had already seen the material before heading up to Appleton. The information would be less overwhelming - more like drinking from a garden hose than a fire hose. If you have some free time now I say why not get a head start?

I've heard both sides...some pilots saying, don't worry about it till training they want to train you how they want to train you. BUT I also heard the other side...from actual check airmen saying; learn some of the memorization items, that isn't procedure just learn the numbers plus glance through it so it doesn't look extremely foreign when in ground.

either way very excited to get started...

Our company has a CRJ-200 course that we get to do as instructors so. That in itself is what I am studying. The more you know the less you fumble flop around later. =-)

True, but are you going to study it during the 2 weeks of indoc? I hope not. We had a guy in our indoc class worrying about too much down the road that he didn't worry about indoc. He didn't make it past the first test. You are allowed a retake but we were told NOBODY passes the retake. True to their word, he failed the retake and had to go home.

I am not making this stuff up. If you want to help yourself, then learn Exemption 3585 and all the 121 weather mins. That foolishness is a lot harder than systems and limitations. You will have 2 weeks of systems to study for an EASY test then at least another 3 weeks before ever having to recite limitations. I assure you, you will have ample time to study this stuff and learn it.

I mean thanks?? During indoc I plan to study indoc stuff. Now I have a bunch of time and am using it to study. I know first hand preparation has never hurt me. Thanks for the recommendations on wx mins and 3585. I will work on that stuff next!

Missed the call last Thursday, returned their call left a voicemail, called back on Friday to see if I could get a hold of HR had to leave another voicemail but today I got the call from Air Wisconsin and got an invitation for an interview!!!

This is my first airline interview, a little nervous but mainly excited!!! Leave this Thursday for an 8 am interview on Friday up in Appleton.

Let's keep the fingers crossed!! :o

Ahh, Appleton - the City of Charm. Haha I am kidding. You should spend a day or two up there if they let you, it's a beautiful time of the year! Good luck!

Here is the question do I spend 2500 bucks and do a RJ Course and learn a bunch of wrong profiles or spend my time before heading AWAC studying limitations and immediate action items? I put down a 500 bucks on the program and got all the avsoft online systems program which retails for like 400 ish. ???

I am not really sure if you are serious or kidding. I really hope your kidding. If your not kidding, then spend the 2500 bucks for the RJ course. I want to be there when you realize that you might as well have set fire to that money and we all toast marshmellows over it. Since you are fighting this so much, I am going to bow out of this fight and let you have at it. I will offer a piece of advice which may or may not be warranted since I can't remember where you got them from. Anyway, if you are going to study systems, limitations, and IAC, then you had better be studying AWAC stuff. Not all RJ's were built the same and there are differences between our planes and skywest's, ASA's etc. Also, for Pete's sake do not learn those IAC's if they aren't ours. Our company requires you know them verbatim and so if they aren't ours, then you are really just wasting your time because every airline has different approved IAC's based on their POI.

Pilotdude, You are the man! I already cancelled it this morning after sitting down and talking to a gentlemen who came to me to do his ATP Written. He is upgrading to Capt at Air Wis and basically had the same things to say as the others. As far as the stuff I do have its all fresh from the last AWAC new hire class. Thanks for your help man. :D

Congratulations!!! It seems like this might be great timing. If this is the beginning of a wave, all you guys just now getting in are at a perfect place!
Now i just need to hurry up get a few hundred more hours and my board ready;)

Got the official word.... Class for the CRJ is Nov 21st!!!

Finally only took 2.5 years since AE hired me, cancelled my class, didn't want to re-interview me with TRIPLE the time....what a relief! Congrats to anyone else in the class!!

I would be more concerned about going to a Green Bay Packers game on one of your weekends in Appleton than anything else.

16 a month starting in January for 6 months, anyone hired now will probably be off reserve pretty quick.

I hope you're right Matt. That is the MINIMUM we need, but I just didn't give ATW credit for being so proactive. Like I said, hope you are right. Maybe they can match that number with upgrades...doubtful though.

I just got the call for an interview on this Thursday. Any hints about the interview process would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, you can just PM them to me if you want.

When did you initially apply? Mine STILL says "Being Reviewed" since 12/2009, and I've updated monthly.
