Interesting thoughts on ORD layout...

I don't know what everyone is bitching about. ORD works MUCH better than it did years ago. Who remembers C1, C, U, G (sometimes E), Z short of T, T, W, cross 4L, A, H, U, A bridge, gates occupied, double back at A7 let me know. Still occupied? Double back at A14 to the box.

Also, when ORD says you're going right in - they mean it. Was told that in ATL one day and we ended up on a 12 mile final. ;)
It does work better, I would agree with that. Although, I liked it back then. And I still like ORD now...it's a challenge and I enjoy it.

That's been gone for a while as far as I know.

ORD has always been a mess. If you're operating in and out of there with regularity, it's manageable. But if you're only there every once in a while, it's a bear.

I fly in and out of there pretty regularly now, but man the first few times were definitely intense. Figuring out how "we do things in Chicahhggo" takes some practice... Fortunately, I have yet to invoke the wrath of a ground controller since I started flying in and out of ORD.

@Seggy I haven't been to ATL yet, but from what every captain who has been there has told me seems to highly imply that in fact ATL is actually way better than ORD. I guess I'll find out for myself some day.

I'm pretty much ok with O'Hare being neutered. "Stabilized approaches" aren't a recommendation, they're a mandatory go around. Maybe someone can get NorCal approach and SFO tower in line next.

I would never stand in the way of safety, but there weren't many instances where I thought ORD was putting me in a bad position for landing. On the other hand...SFO. Ahem.

It is losing a bit of it's magic, but at least the circus on the inner rings is still fun.

Yup.

I hate the multiple taxi clearances without pausing. Shortcuts by ATC because they are busy is like us forgoing the before takeoff checklist because we don't have time.

We do things a certain way for a reason.

So the guy is trying to say that O'hare should continue to be a daily operational disaster just so the controllers can feel like they're awesome? He comes across like a tool not to say I don't work with many like him. I like that he compares operational statistics like that has absolutely anything to do with the airport layout..... I mean O'hare is a beast and I can understand that he feels it's boring now but the rest of his rambling is just ridiculous.

Author sounds like the ATC version of this

I was going to say d'bag, but tool works.

Oh, also, can he use the self aggrandizing term "legendary" some more?

NYC needs to take a page out of the Japanese playbook and build an island, put one airport that works there, connect it to high speed rail to the city, turn the remaining three airports into the garbage dumps they are.

Wasn't that the original idea with Idlewild, since it was out in the middle of nowhere?

ORD, at least to me, has always been like walking in a hyper busy "locals only" restaurant without a menu and you only have a short time for lunch. The patrons are very fast to mock you for unfamiliarity and all you want to do is key your mic and say "Shut your asses, I'm here like once every 18 months. This isn't the center of the world. Can a brother get a damn quesadilla? Oh, when your editorial comments are over, I see you call it a cheese crisp here, whatever."

Just tried going home via ORD last weekend. Ended up stuck there for seven hours wondering why flight after flight was leaving, fully loaded, 3 concourses away, with me not on board. This couldn't be more accurate.....No wait....my lunch is getting cold.....I just wanted a table.........or a bed.....

Sorry i got to weight in on this, KATL A80 is the biggest one trick pony in the ATC world and never took any great skills to work a 2 flow airport with with little to no SAT traffic. When i got to C90 our the C90 7110 had 14 different arrival depature confg we had to know. Then add the South SAT mess we had with KMDW that made C90 KORD a REAL controllers place to work .and we did it without a bunch of faggy FMS SID/STARS. Here is all it takes to work depatures at A80 , "XXX radar contact" , "XXX contact atl center " wow !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the problem is C90 KORD has been castrated just like the rest of the ATC world ................................. That is all carry on !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

P.S. if passion for my home ATC makes me a dik well so be it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's way too early to be drinking.

little to no SAT traffic

Please oh please tell me when the last time you looked at ATL satellite traffic? I've always valued your opinion, but you're talking out of your ass.

That's like me commenting on ORD satellite traffic, which I wouldn't do because I've never worked it.
