Yeah, as an F/O I've gotten used to going for the handshake when a jumpseater introduces themselves only to be ignored.

It just seemed VERY awkward to have a jumpseater come into the cockpit, make an attempt to introduce himself, and I'm trying to be the good F/O and let the Captain make the first move.
If no attempt by the Captain to actually introduce himself to the guy, I'd take the lead and get the awkwardness over with.
No reason someone should feel ignored in a crew environment.
Can't say I've ever extended out a handshake and it not be received though, now that's a dick move.

Although, it can make a boring flight more interesting since I can't seem to find where the porn is hidden any more.

Nah, just an • looking for a ride.
Although, it can make a boring flight more interesting since I can't seem to find where the porn is hidden any more.
It's pretty rare.
But when you want to have a little fun, flip down the escape rope hatch, make a confused look, then look over at the other pilot and say, "Oh man, that's cold! How do you spell your last name again?"
That one works like gangbusters every time.

We're having the same problem up in Denver, someone keeps taking it out! Man... when we returned all of our Dash 100s the company got a call from Bombardier asking what was wrong with our pilots -- under every thing there was porn. Even places where you needed a screwdriver to open!

Oh boy....here it goes.
We have had a lot of problems lately with skyw pilots jumpseating on other airlines. From the email we got from our jump cord. it sounds like our guys are feel a sense of entitlement about the jumpseat.
Just two days ago I had a friend who is ex skyw and now flies at wn tell me about a skyw jumpseater he had that said "I'll be in the back". Without asking permission or showing any licenses. The pic was gone so the fo told him to hold on and had a stern talking to him.
I could tell you where this sense of entitlement comes from, but with no union protection, and mgmt frequenting these boards, I can't say.
It's embarrassing to hear of such things. These guys not only represent Skywest but also me.
I js to work almost every week. And almost every week it's the same routine.
Show up at the gate early, politely request the js, sit and not botherthem until they call you up. Board the plane leaving your bags out of the way in the jetway, introduce myself to the purser with a smile and ask if I can say hi up front. Wait for the crew to finish their tasks and not interupt, then politely ask for a ride to work. You should show a sign of respect and professionalism by referring to the pic as captain. When you do all this...I gaurantee you...union or not...you will be welcomed 99% of the time.
Staple- I too jumpseated from Ord-atl on our 900. Let me just say I didn't say much either bcuz I thought the pic was weird and akward to say the least.
