Interesting go-around

That runway went away in a hurry. I've never had that happen in rain before but I lost the runway in a snow squall once, about 300 feet above the ground (and 300 feet below the MDA for the GPS approach). Life gets busy in a hurry when you think you are about to land but really aren't.

Bang! There at DH, and then GONE!

I've never had that happen, but I can see how tempting it would be to proceed so long as you're stable and coming down the middle of the pipe. Well-disciplined crew.

The world disappeared after touchdown (at taxi speed) once in DFW - that was pretty nifty. The approach and touchdown were smooth, but then it appeared that there was a hole in the sky. :O

There's still a bit of flying left after touchdown. It would have been even more interesting if this turned into an inadvertent touch-and-go. I think we've all seen that momentary loss of visibility. It looks like this pilot gave it a moment before making the call. I've been thinking about this video and whether an inadvertent touchdown would have been much of an event.

Excellent and expeditious decision making by the crew. Like tomokc said... I can see how it would be tempting to go ahead and put it on the ground at that point (it's just RIGHT there!!!), but going around is definitely the right decision there.

What a handful, going from about to touch pavement to GTFO. Handled with aplomb by the crew.

Great video. Thanks for sharing.

A balked landing is flown pretty much the same as a go around, except WAY more gingerly. I did one years ago where we got blown off the side of the runway by a DHL 727 (shows how long ago that was) and ended up putting a wheel down in the grass during the event. Other than some mud on the plane and a long divot on the ground, it was pretty much the same as every other low energy go around I've done. The system logic on most planes is such that if you put the power up it will flip the air/ground logic back to air and any sort of landing assistance systems (spoilers, reversers etc) should unarm and stow.

Good times!

Can't speak for much else, but once reverse idle is selected in the 767, we're committed to the landing.

I have NO experience with a HUD, my question for those that do, do you think that the captain even notice what had happened?
