Instrument Regs

According to 61.57 (c) (d), a pilot is legal to file/fly IFR during the first 6 months after obtaining the rating -if- during that time he/she logged approaches/holdings/intercepting etc..

I've got my IR on 4/15/03, and by 10/15/03 I logged 7 approaches, holdings and interceptings making me legal for that first 6 months period. However, I did not performed any holdings/trackings on the past 6 months, (only approaches). Do I need a proficiency check or just a safety pilot???

What confuses me is paragraph (d) where it says:

[ QUOTE ]
a person who does not meet the instrument experience requirements of paragraph (c) of this section within the prescribed time, or within 6 calendar months after the prescribed time

Do I need a proficiency check or just go up with a safety pilot???

Thanks in advance

No proficiency check. You can get the hold done with a safety pilot. You cannot, however, file or fly in IFR conditions until you get that done. Thank God for the extra 6 month grace period....

Oh, and thanks to your avatar, I'm goona have to watch Young Frankenstein now.

Thanks for the replies, that's how I remembered it (somehow reading the regs didn't help clarify that).
