Instrument Rating aeronautical experience

Hello, I'm a private pilot with 100 hours and I'm wondering if the 50 hours cross country can be logged while logging the 40 hours simulated instrument. For example, I fly to an airport 50 miles away under the hood with a safety pilot. Can it be logged as simulated instrument and cross country? Or, do I need to focus on the cross country time first, then start working on the instrument rating.

Thanks!!

What I did with my CFII was we'd go to a bunch of airports 50 nm away and do some approaches there. I only had about 20 x/c when I started instrument so it worked out really well. Plus I got to do a bunch of approaches at different airports.

Log all the xc time you can. You will need it if you plan on going to the airlines, and if not it's just good experience.

Hi my names Derrick, just wanted to introduce myself to everyone since this is my first post. I had this same question basically with the exception of the safety pilot. I dont really have any other pilot friends.
I was wondering if it would be legal for my Instructor and to combine the 50hrs x-c and instrument time and me still log it as pic so I can meet the requirement? Otherwise, Id have to seek other options and I don't want to go that way if I dont have to. I'd like to keep my current instructor.

Yes. Anytime you are flying a single engine piston aircraft as the sole manipulator of the controls and you have a private pilot airplane, you can log it as PIC. It doesn't matter if it is VFR or IFR and it doesn't matter if you are able to act as PIC.

Thanks for clearing that up!

....are you looking for any safety pilots? If so, where are you located..?
