Instrument Rated!

Took and passed my practical test this morning at KTPF. Been down here in Venice, FL, for the past week with 6 other planes from our flight school...amazing what you get done when you fly more than twice a week! Flew up to KTPF early this morning to meet the examiner....

Oral was pretty straight forward, nothing tricky... went over flight planning, lost comms, regs pertaining to instrument flight, and a few other things. Then we headed out VFR (I hear people usually file on their ride?) anyway we got vectors from TPA Approach to Lakeland, FL for the ILS 5, he had me go missed, non-published. Then we went back around for the VOR 27 into LAL, but then the tower's entire radio system failed, so approach broke us off and we did one trip around the hold from the VOR 27 missed approach with a partial panel. Then we got vectors for the LOC 23 into Tampa Exec... published missed. After going missed, we headed back to KTPF to do the RNAV 21 with circle-to-land rwy 3 to a full stop. With a handshake and a "I'll meet you inside" I was Instrument Rated... pretty fun experience to get it done down here! Oh and TPF is a really neat little airport!

Congratulations! The IR ride is a tough one, way to start the new year!!!

Congrats! Certainly a big accomplishment.

What are you guys doing down in FL? Too cold in MI for ya? :D

16 and snow? No thanks! Actually it's pretty funny, it was about 50-55 today down here and when we all walked into the FBO in shorts/t-shirts the ladies were like "oh here comes that flight school from Michigan again...." 55 is warm for northern-ers! :D

We flew the Skyhawks down here! Funny story about that too.. saw one of the jets based at YIP down at VNC the other day and the pilots recognized our planes and one of them came up and asked if we were from YIP and how long it took us to get here... one of our students replied "9 hours in the 172" and he said "let me shake your hand!" I guess it took him 2.1 or something... :rawk:

Congratulations....that's an important checkride. Enjoy the extra freedom it allows, and be safe!

Congrats. I'm working on my instrument up here in Buffalo and let me tell you the weather is awful. I haven't been able to get up in a week or so, damn lake effect snow.

Congrats! The instrument is a big accomplishment. I look forward to starting my own instrument training. :)
