Nice piece! They gave alot more away about the plane than I would have thought.

Here's my question--why did they opt for the 747 classic as opposed to the -400? Weren't -400s the latest and greatest in 1990ish? The cockpit itself of AF1 looks at a glace almost exactly the same as the 1960s technology I fly. It must be difficult finding good parts such as those old school EPR gauges. I would have expected to see substantial upgrades up front (aside from the EADIs/EHSIs).

Because the 747-400 were just in the pre planning stages. Look when the president pane were order in 1986 and look when the 747-400 first rolled out in 1988. So I guess they felt uncertain about the 747-400.
