Insane Landing in Honduras

Sweeeeeeeeet! I hadn't seen this video yet. I was born in Tegucigalpa, we go back every year for Christmas. I have some videos I took myself of the landing in Tegucigalpa from inside. It has always been my dream since I was young to fly that approach. It's a small runway, 6132 feet, so they have to get the approach just right. It's A LOT of fun from the inside. I love it. I'll try putting up my vids soon.

edit: I like the description given here: Search videos for tegucigalpa
It's very accurate. :)

At Continental we have five special airports that require checkouts south of the border, including this one in TGU. Without question, this approach into TGU is the most difficult of the five with Quito (UIO) a distant second. I vividly remember my first time in there wondering how crazy it was. I recall looking out my window on short final and seeing a TV on in some familys home. The police have to block traffic on the roadway so the gear doesn't hit the cars as they cross the arrival end of the runway. It's almost as exciting as landing on the USS Ranger.

"TERRAIN, TERRAIN" :)

Most airlines that fly there use a tailored approach. The touchdown zone markings are 650' from the threshhold, and the taxiway towards the departure end has airplanes parked in long-term storage on it.

wait - no comments about him touching down in the threshold. . .wtf guys? You're letting me down.

:sarcasm:

Killer approach though.
