Ink off of leather interior?

Hi All, new to the forum.

My first student bought an airplane and during our training, I learned something I did not learn in flight school; namely, when flying right seat and writing with my right hand, I got pen ink over the leather on the door cover (I always hold my pen in my hand when flying--never caused this problem left seat because I am right-handed)

Anyway, my studend/airplane owner hasn't been upset over it, but I would like to make it right.

Any ideas?

Anybody done similar stuff to other people's airplanes that I need to look out for?

Thanx in advance.

Try glycerine, available from any drugstore. It works well on getting ink out of fabrics without discoloration to the fabric itself, it may do the trick on leather as well.

per the queen of clean:

On leather, rub with cuticle remover (nonoily cuticle remover -- not nail polish remover) or petroleum jelly to remove ballpoint ink. Let it sit overnight, then wipe off with a soft cloth. Hopefully the ink will be gone....You may need to leave it on the stained area for several days to achieve success.

For remaining spots, dip a cotton swab in rubbing alcohol and treat just the ink area by dabbing with the alcohol and cotton swab. Dab with the dry end of the swab to blot up the ink. Try not to spread the alcohol any more than necessary because it is drying to leather. Once the mark is removed, wash the area with Dove soap. I always suggest that you try the alcohol method in an inconspicuous spot before proceeding.

On vinyl, believe it or not, the best thing is for you to be so mad that you could spit! When treated immediately, saliva will remove ballpoint ink from vinyl. Apply generously, and wipe with a soft cloth. For old stains, apply glycerin, let it soak for 30 minutes or so and then attempt to wash the stain away with a wet soft cloth rubbed over a bar of soap.

I've used this method but mostly on scraped knees. Now I use windex like that old Greek guy. :D

Buy him a new airplane and start using a pencil. :)

I've heard of the cuticle remover thing in the past... but you might also try a leather cleaner or Isopropyl Alcohol (available in most pharmacies) - I used it Isopropyl Alcohol on my car and it worked. Try it in a small concealed area first to make sure you don't make things worse (been there too).

Good luck!

Thx

Thanks all,

My Student will really like the "buy him a new airplane" solution, but I will probably go for the nail polish remover, etc approaches.

Cordially,

T.
