Initial Training and Sim time

Hi Folks:

Here in Houston in initial airline training, first airline job. A question came up....do you log your sim sessions? If so, do you log the time spent as 'sitting seat' for someone? IOW, would I log the whole 4 hours, even though I was PF for only 2. Also, must you be instrument current(6 in 6) to serve as FO on a 121 flight? (I would imagine yes, which means at least log that and the checkride). Thx!
 
I've never logged mine. The only sim time I've got in my logbook is back from when I was working on my Instrument rating. Your airline will keep track of all of the requirements for your 121 training.
 
For whatever reason I still log my sim time. I'll just put a 4 hour block under SIM and nothing else logged. Maybe in the remarks put the type of training, in a case like you are in, I'd use "Initial" I also note the PCs.

Like Bob said, under the 121 training program, you will always be instrument current. Also, there is no need to differentiate night and day landings for currency. Just 3 every 90 days.
 
Sometimes it's hard to get those 3 landings in 90 days, then you de-qual and have to do a PC again.

I guess I am one of the few people that do log simulator time for no particular reason. I log it under flight trainer only - not under total time - I don't log any of the instrument approaches that are done in the simulator - just 4 hrs of sim time. No simulated instrument, no day no night. just sim.

One thing I do record is the simulator number - just like the N number for an aircraft, each simulator has it's own "N" number that you can look up on the FAA website since the FAA administers the "National Simulator program"
 
Never logged sim time after my Inst ticket. I do keep track of PC's / LOFT's though, just don't log the time associated with them.
 
Thx Folks. I think I will log at least the last couple of the initial, if only cause I just came off CFiing and I dont think I've logged approaches in several months. I assume 6 approaches and a hold in 6 months still applies.
 
If you're working 121 you dont need the 6 approaches, just landing currency gives you instrument currency.... if I recall.
 
My understanding is the PC and the paperwork you should keep meets the requirements for Part 91 Flight Review. If you intend on flying IFR Part 91 you should ask your instructor/DE (I imagine) to sign you off for an IPC. This is all info gathered from the "Everything Explained for the Professional Pilot" book.

When I went to get my cfi renewed the guy who signed, was also the POI for my 121 carrier. He said a PC most certainly counts for a part 91 flight review. He said if an FBO questions it, they could give him a call.

I do the same thing. If you're going for upgrade, sometimes that can be the difference between upgrading a month or so early. It was for me, but then again times were different way back in 2008.
 
Do a type at a place like CAE or FSI and I think it is up to 100 hrs towards ATP requirements. Anyway I log mine, cause there is a space for it :)
