People are people and governments/states are no different than a poorly run office. Same petty tyrants, same reaction to criticism and same stupid policies to cover up poor results from paid functionaries.

One just has tanks, guns and worse consequences for the locals.

The Azov Nazis are an odd bunch. I get some healthy right-wing nationalism to fire up the troops but Ukrainian Slavs embracing Nazi values is a bit perverse.

Hey Russians, we know how you feel about Nazis so we are going to ignore the fact we feel same way and embrace Nazi imagery.

Hitler might not have considered us white enough but he’s long gone so we are white. White supremacy ideology might be motivating while fighting Chechens but what about when fighting fellow Slavs, the Russians?

As far as domestic politics, Ukraine isn’t very diverse is it? It didn’t seem so during my visits. Do they have a refugee or immigration problem? A white power movement seems kinda boring when everybody is white.

I must be missing something.
 
The whole US response to the Syrian civil war is/has been a dog's breakfast from start to finish (or at least to the current moment, not like it's quite over). The reality is you're basically choosing between a strongman who is doing all sorts of naughty things you don't like, or a bunch of religious loons who will work day and night to make sure said strongman looks like Winnie the Pooh. Just exactly how the State Department KEEPS deciding that if we support religious fanatics they will suddenly embrace Western values is 100% beyond me. We're naught for how many now?

Edit: AFAICT, there aren't a lot of actual Ukranian Nazis, it's not an apples-to-apples comparison. Certainly, they exist, but I would paint our intervention in Ukraine as kind of the opposite of our various abject failures in the Middle East. Like, Ukrainians are increasingly well-disposed towards the West, and increasingly interested in joining the, for want of a better term, modern world. Perhaps both because they have both a more similar world-view (including religion, obviously) to the West and (I think more importantly) they have real, long-term, and relatively recent experience with the alternative being presented by the East.

I see the Ukrainian neo-Nazis as progress, a more inclusive Nazi.

A better, more peaceful world! Slathering, dumber-than-a-box-of-hammers, radicalized, Black Bloc, upper-middle-class hipsters merrily ranting away in the same park or public space wherein, just a few yards away, some drooling, inbred, notionally "confederate" genetic accidents march around seig-hileing. All of it sound and fury, signifying nothing.

Sign me up.
 
Wild story. Real life turner diaries. It is crazy to think how many of them probably live down long roads off hwy 20 behind the trees. Same can be said all around here.
