FLIPY FLAPS!
Start in feathered, sure (because it’s a Pratt, and there’s no oil in the hub yet), but it doesn’t stay in feathered because there’s no way to keep it in feathered, it’s instantly trying to unfeather and you have thrust pretty much right away.PC12's start feathered.
Starting in flight idle is really no big deal and would certainly NOT cause an airplane to launch forward like that.
The video is definitely max power. I would like to know why the condition lever wasn't place into cutoff at the first sign of trouble.
And if that didn't work, the firewall shutoff.
Pilot had the good sense to try to avoid the Hawker.
All the ones I flew had a feather inhibit switch for shutdown too (so as not to kick up rocks on gravel). If you had just shut down you it was out of feather pretty fast.
regardless this is a weird accident
Its how we get better - brainstorming how someone else could • up primes us not to make the same mistakes.I never had a problem with pondering an accident/incident.
It's a good mental exercise.
and in the event that I do bent an airplane I'd likely Monday Quarterback more that anyone else.
