In Peachtree City.....

I just saw this new forum so I thought I would make a quick post.

I don't know much about Falcon Aviation Academy but last sunday I flew in to Peachtree Falcon Field after I couldn't get in to Newnan-Coweta because of weather. The airport and everyone in the FBO was very nice. The even rented me a brand new Volvo to go back to Newnan-Coweta Airport for my interview at the school there.

I saw the academy right next to the FBO. They definitely have beautiful new planes there. It looks like a very nice place. I'm moving in to Peachtree City next week. I'm sure I'll swing by at some point. I would like to get checked out in one of those nice new planes just to see what they're like.

Similar to where I trained. There's a nice academy with new planes (Pan-Am) and a smaller more laid back place with old planes (Aviator). Here the smaller place is in Newnan. Competant training is offered at both.

I'll be living in the area starting in about 10 days. Like I said. I don't know the school but after a little while I'll know the area at least. So... I might be able to suggest a place for a good meal and a good round of golf.

Here's little general info if you have never been to, or know nothing about, the Peachtree City/Newnan/Fayetteville area. It's a cool little area. That's for sure. I've very excited about moving up there.

I think I saw in another thread where you are going to be instructing in GA. at a place with a 135 operation. Is that Falcon? If not, where will you be instructing?

I am very familiar with the area as I grew up on the southside of Atlanta. They have very nice facilities there.

I see where yo uinterviewed at Newnan Coweta. Missed that.

I am doing my long x-cntry to Lagrange for my commercial from Charlotte as I am from the area and they have the cheapest self-serve gas of anywhere around. Then I'll hop over to Falcon Field and meet my mom for some lunch up in P'tree City.

I did my two short x-cntry's to Falcon Field from Pensacola when I lived there. Flew there in the afternoon with my instructor and went out to eat with my sister and mom and then flew back after it got dark for the night one.

Hey Brian,

Yeah. I'll be just southwest at Newnan-Coweta. It's a nice little flield. They have a aviation club there where I'll be instructing. It's not like the place at Falcon Academy at Peachtree. Older planes (mostly 172's) and most people come in for private licenses. But they can accomodate everything. They have a Beech Travelair for twin training. I don't know what it's like. I've never flown one but I have about 240 hours in the Duchess. The Travelair looked a little bigger and I think it's an older plane.

The have a "pro course" listed on their web site but I don't think it's fully developed yet. It might be though. I'm gong to try to help them get that going a little better. The one thing they need is housing. But I don't know if John (the owner) would want to put up with the hassles of having tons of people here, like the Aviator. For every positive about having lots of students.... there's plenty of negatives. Mostely those negatives are respect for someone elses property. Housing or aircraft. For some reason people don't treat things with respect if they don't own it.

Anyway.... They also have a Lance and the Chieftans for the 135 op. I'm hoping to get involved in that after I get established and prove my worth.

I'm excited about being there because it's a nice atmosphere. Good people. It's a "club like" atmosphere where people come in and you really take care of them. So that's cool. It would be nice to get some people who wanted to stay for 6 months to a year and get all their ratings. I think it would be really good because then I could do some fun instrument, twin and commercial instructing. Hopefully that will happen at some point.

The other nice thing is it's a great place to "meet people". There's lots of corporate jets in and out of the field and the school is run out of the FBO. Unlike Aviator where we're seperated so there's little to no contact with the people you need to "run in to" every now and then. ya know.

Anyway.... when are your x-c's? Swing by some time after I'm established there and I'll take ya out to "The Redneck Gourmet" for lunch.

Don't laugh too hard. It's really good.

Hey, I'm from GA. I'll bet the "Redneck Gourmet" is good.

Not sure when I'm gonna do the long x-cntry. Hopefully in the next month or so. I'll see if I can drop by.

When are you going to start there?

I'm moving up 1 week from today. gotta get all squared away with the house stuff as well as some formalities at the airport before I start. Then (with mixed feelings) I have to go back to cincinnati to help my dad move. I say mixed feelings because I'm really anxious to start working for a couple reasons. They said the really needed me up there asap and I'm excited about working there. It's a great atmosphere.

But I really want to visit home as well. I've been homesick for a while. Gotta help dad move and see all my friends in the evenings so I can make it a quick trip.

Anyway.... I'll probably be settled in and working some time the first week of august.

Oh man, that sucks. I was hoping we could play some poker down at AriBen. I'll be starting training at Ari on the first week of August. Good luck, John!!

Playing tonight. I have to redeem myself for making a stupid mistake last week. GRRRRRRR.

Don't worry. There's poker every wednesday night and I'm sure they will be looking for players. A couple of the regulars have left.

Kinda a confusing post....which flight school are you talking about?
Falcon Aviation uses Diamond aircraft for all professional training with the exception of Piper Senecas for Multi training. We have two Twin Stars on order that are expected to be in the flight within the next six months

Sorry 'bout that. We got off the subject and started talking about the planes where I trained. I saw Falcon's planes when I was up there though. Beautiful new diamond planes. I'll probably go get checked out in one at some point. I would like to take one for a spin and see what it's like.

Side note...... I did some instrument instruction in a Beech Bonanza today. First time I've ever been in one of those. It was a really nice plane as well.

MultiComm,

I have a question. Out of curiousity. How much multi time do you get if you come in there off the street with no ratings? I'm sure there's a "pro course" program for going straight through and getting all the ratings. Is most of the time done in singles or twins for the maturation phase while building time to get to the commercial mins? Is it instrument time under the hood with a safety pilot? How does that all work at Falcon.

Just curious.

Welcome to Hotlanta. I live over near Tara field ( 4a7) I am sure you will make a trip or 2 over here. Congrats on the new job. I think Falcon Aviation is owned by a former ASA Capt. His name is Dan Waters. He owned Peachtree Flight and from my understanding same school new name. Nothing really negative to say. I know at one time they had a few engine mishaps but nothing fatal. Dan was also big in ASA's pilot training and hiring. Doug would know more if that is the owner though.

Total Multi Time will be 90 hours. Of this time approx 75 will be PIC time which is flown after you complete the Multi Private ride. You will never find a situation where there are two students flying and an instructor in the back. All flight time is one on one with an instructor.

Private and Instrument is in the single (DA-20/DA-40)
Multi Commercial (Piper Seneca...soon a Twin Star)
Single Commercial (DA-20)
CFI (DA-20/C182)
CFII (DA-40)
MEI (Piper Seneca)
-- addition to Pro Pilot Couse --
ATP (Piper Seneca or Piper Navajo)

The instrument rating is combined between the DA-20, DA-40 conventional cockpit and the DA-40 Glass Cockpit

Instrument Training time is both Hood time and Actual IFR time with an instructor. All instrument time is dual instruction not safety pilot time. If necessary for time building it is at the students option to hook up with another student and do the safety pilot time to save a little money but the programs Falcon advertise do not include this type of time.

You are correct about the ower being Dan Waters however he is still a current Capt with ASA.

The engine mishaps you mention were several years ago and before we introduced the complete new fleet of aircraft in which we now train.

I wasnt sure if Dan had retired or not. I know he was part of ASA's group that set the deal with ATA. I have been over there since you guys got the new planes. Very nice.

To make my statement clear I am not bashing Peachtree Fligh/Falcon Aviation. The incidents/accidents I mentioned are known fact. Heck I may windup there doing some training. I have seen the pretty new planes and watched a guy to crosswind landings in the 2 seater..very bumpy and lots of wiggling.

No offense was ever implied. I certainly am not denying a fact or trying to cover it up, it has happened and there is no changing that however with a new fleet and new management a lot has be improved. I just wanted to make sure others reading didn't think we have a bad maintenance program.

I am with you on the fact that crosswind landings really toss those Diamonds. Believe me, I have flown them and it is tough to make an airplane that was modeled after a glider want to land. The bumpy ride is almost a given with any light single engine, especially a two seater.

Sorry for any confusion in the post

Its cool. I am glad to see Dan has been successful with that school. There is no another type school like that on the southside. I hope though with the charter part to be added that it doesnt turn into problems that have plagued others (ATA and TAB). I think Dan is smarter than that and I am sure he has seen and read about all those schools tanking after trying it. Greed will doom any school or business.
