In need of Fligth Review & IPC

Hi,

haven't been flying for a couple of years and now I need to get back in the "saddle". I hold a FAA CPL/IR (ASEL&AMEL) as well as CFI and CFII (did online FIRC to keep them). Was wondering if there is anybody here who could help me in this regard (Flight Review & IPC). Generally, location doesn't really matter as long as the weather is stable (was initially thinking of the Boston area, but not sure about the weather at this time of the year). I'm planing on a time frame of about a week or so to get it done. Currently I'm not living in the States, coming in from Europe. Would be great to hear from you guys!

Whereabouts in Europe?

American Flyers are in MMU, which is pretty close to EWR.

I'll come over in Dec-Mar timeframe, probably to PHX or LAS etc.

Alex.

Somewhere cheap. AF hourly rates are absurd. My academy class a 172 was $250/hour for non-academy students.

You could get double the flight time at any normal flight school in a 172. Since it's November and you're planning on coming in after Thanksgiving, I'd avoid the east coast. I imagine it's hard to fly with their weather for a week straight but that's my guess. If you don't have a ticket booked for a specific spot, the western states weather is amazing and tons of schools over here at cheaper rates. I'm flying in 70 degrees the last 2 weeks with only 2 days of rain in PHX in those weeks. California probably had over 30 days straight without a drop, and cheap rates are over there as well.

Just don't get stuck with some big name school just to get a flight review and IPC and end up spending double the price. Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for the feedback so far, I appreciate it!

Yes, that's what I'm looking for a FBO or smaller flight school with reasonable prices and friendly staff. I agree, the SW part of the US is probably the best place to go at this time of the year in terms of weather and to get it done in minimum time (BFR & IPC).

Haven't booked a ticket yet, so I'm absolutely flexible regarding the location. If there are any folks here who can recommend a nice FBO or flight school, please let me know! I'm looking forward to hearing from you guys!

Southwestflightcenter at SDL, or Westairaviation at VGT.

My IPCs at similar SW places cost $450 or so, so I'll be coming to you TCCO!

I don't mind paying that - when you think C-172 $130/hr, Instructor $60/hour, plus ground it works out around that. I prefer to do the 6 approaches vs just an IPC if I'm within the 6 month grace period.

Thanks for the info, especially "ahw01" already checked out the website of the companies you mentioned!

If someone knows a nice FBO or smaller flight school in the SW and/or Southern part of the country to get current again (BFR & IPC) please let me know!

Well, true I cold do it here in EU. But prices are horrendous here, 250 - 300 Euros for a C172 plus landing-fees 10 - 20 Euros per landing/approach, plus 50 -100 Euros for the instructor (if you are lucky enough to find one) and don't forget the sure charge for the fuel. Secondly you still have to take into account the costs for the trip and accommodation, since there are only very few FAA CFIs here in Europe and the weather at this time of the years is not best anyway. So if I sum all of this up I rather choose to travel to the States and do the review there and even get a few more hors of flying for the same money!

As mentioned above, if somebody knows of a nice FBO or smaller flight school in the SW of the States, please let me know - Thanks!

I'm in hnl and I crank em out. Oh yea our weather is Vfr 99% of the year. Why not do an add on? Seaplane, multi, tail wheel I do all of them and do it well. If your serious pm me but if you're just looking then best of luck in your search.

I teach in boston at a very large flight school, if you are interested in doing it in Boston send me a PM and we can see what we can arrange.
