In case I ever thought about taking up skydiving:

I always thought the requirement to have a parachute for aerobatics were silly, in the event of a catastrophic airframe failure, or entering an unrecoverable spin, the likelihood of being able to bail out safely seems so small that it's not even worth the hassle.

I flew jumpers and jumped once tandem. I’d never do either again. Skydivers are fookin nuts and it was constantly like babysitting schizophrenic squirrels when it came to risk management. “Hey let’s get this last overweight load done before that monsoon cell hits. LETS GOOOOOO!”

I did about 900 jumps in the ‘90s. Jumpmaster, competition teams, etc. Hell, I almost dropped out of college to try out for the Golden Knights! Had more than my share of close calls (mostly my fault). It was a great time.

I went broke right after I graduated. Sold all my gear. Figured I’d get back into it when I finally got established, and had the time and money. By the time that happened, I’d kinda’ moved on. Had a LOT more to lose, and decided to spend my time and money elsewhere. Plus, the prospect of my kid growing up without a Dad (not likely, but it does happen) because I get bored easily is just not acceptable.

Some times, I still miss it though...
