Improving Memory

Also, if you tend to be more of an audio-learner (remembering via listening) try making up a song containing the memory items. Make new words (using the info you want to memorize) to an existing song, or make up a whole new tune. Sing it to yourself, or use it to entertain others at the bar. :)

If, however, you are a visual learner, get a Sharpie and write the V speeds on your SO's naked body, take a picture, and study.

And send me a copy.

(Except for you, Max....)

(Oh, and in case my wife is reading this, I am TOTALLY kidding...)

Read them, say them out loud to yourself and keep reading them....Then take a blank limitations sheet (make one if you have to) and try to fill it out without cheating....After about 3 or 4 of them, you should have it down pretty well

Really, flash cards are how I do it. And once they are there and being used, or at least thought about from time to time, they tend to stick.

write out flashcards (writing by hand makes it more of a task, and helps it stick too!)

get a tablet of paper, write them down over and over and over again, peeking less and less at your cheat sheet. when you can write them 10 times in a row without peeking, then come back 12 hours later and write it down, youve got it.

same with flows/memory lists.

write it down, over and over and over.

this actually doesnt take as much time as you might think.

Definitely agree with doing the flows with a poster or paper tiger BUT the problem with this is it is a low pressure environment, whereas in the sim it will be a high pressure environment the first few times and it's easy to forget your flows. Me and my sim partners would try to rush each other, make noise, drum on the back of your chair etc. to put pressure on each other while we do our flows.

As far as V-speeds and other rote memory, get together with another trainee and quiz eachother using flash cards.

For muscle memory, learning how to play an instrument is great.

Brain Age is a cool video game for your gray matter.

Regular exercise is good for the cranium.

Oh, and some people record themselves reading out v speeds and such and listen to it while driving.

Sportys should put out an audio disc you can pop in the car. If they dont have one already. I have a meeting with Jack Lynch from Sportys Tuesday morning. I should mention it. Great advice guys. Flash cards seem to be the most popular choice.

I agree, but I don't always have acess to a poster. I usually try to study away from home, so I go to starbucks or BN... and I'd like to avoid bringing a big poster in there.

Dude, you'd get all the chics running around with the poster at Starbucks. If you could only get a CPT hooked up to the back of your car...damn so smooooth.
