Immunizations for International Pilots

Where will you fly? I can give you my 2-cents worth of info if I know that.:laff:

Thanks Walt. More or less western and eastern Europe, Turkey, Western Africa and the occasional Bombay/Chennai.

I might try to do it this weekend and take Kristie along at one of the clinics in Scottsdale, but I haven't called to ascertain availability yet.

BTW, I'm having the immunizations done at "Allergy Asthma & Immunology Specialists" over in Scottsdale. Have you heard of them and anything I need to look out for? I forgot to ask if they've got the W.H.O. "yellow" forms... I guess that's on the 'to do' list!

Be sure to tell them where you are going to be traveling so you get the proper shots.

I would also check the link I sent you in the first response so you can "guide" them with the right answers.:yup:

Yup! Taking it along with me!

I called the first group on the CDC list, which was invariably "Mayo Clinic" and they wanted to bring me in for counseling, then a travel seminar and then MAYBE I'd be able to get the shot down the road. But these guys can hook me up same day.

Done!

What we both got:
Adacel (Tdap)
Twinrix (Hep A & Hep B)
Yellow Fever

What I got in addition:
Polio booster (Haven't had one since childhood)
MMR (can't remember!)

One of those shots burned like freaking fire, but the rest went alright.

A little soreness but that's about it! I'm a little dopey but it might be a psychosomatic response or just the grey skies today in PHX.

Just remember to get the rest of the Hep A&B series.

I agree with the gloomy day here. It reminds me of Chicago. Bring back the SUN:nana2:

Yup! Gotta remember that!

Every consider adding the basic four immunizations to the menu at the office? That way, when you send out the medical expiration reminders, customers will also have a method of tracking their immunization 'due dates'.

Like: Class one expires next month, yellow fever due (immun. date 10/1996), etc... ?

Doc

How important is it to get the Hep A & B shots on the 3 month/6 Month timetable. I had a real hard time getting my second series from the clinic in New Bern so I got the second dose at about 5 monts and the third dose 6 months after that.

Have you seen the size of the needle they use for the Yellow Fever vaccine?

It's like a drainpipe!

:p
that was so mean.. i went in there thinking the shot as going to be HUGE and it was just a small little thing... actually, they were all the same size altho i think the yellow fever did burn a bit...one of them had a pinch, the other had a burn and the third, didn't feel a thing....odd how that works! :insane:

luckily, i won't be afraid of shots anymore.. i think it's just not having shots since you were children that makes you fearful of them (those childhood horror dreams and all).. haha

I took the series first, one of them burned like hot lead in my shoulder, but I was a trooper! :)

he was a trooper...i asked him if he wanted a lollypop and he said no!

crazy man... :insane:

The typhoid is the worst. The gamma gobulin hurts going in, but that typhoid hurts like a week later!

Probably all immunizations are better than the real thing, however! :)

My arms feel like someone beat the living crap out of me!

Reminds me of being in high school where you'd get hit and they'd say "Two fer flenching!"

i still have this red welt like bump on my arm.. is that from the yellow fever shot or the hep shots?

i'm hoping it goes away soon... it's practically summer and that means short sleeved shirts!
