im rich, biotch!

Costco pays a ton of money for part time workers with out any degree. I wish there was a Costco around here. You can make well over $13/hr doing nothing but bagging groceries.

Show me that kind of job anywhere in the country. And why doenst a bartender count, or a server or anything else that is in that line of work? Do you think a job at wal mart pays any better anywhere else? And secondly why would you be entitled to make the amount of money you are requesting without a bachelors degree, at the age of 18? Should anywhere be required to pay you a significant amount of money for a basic job which you just requested for an 18 year old with no educational background? I think you should give communism a try, that seems to fit more into your requests.

I made $10.50/hr doing basic data entry at Intel when I was 18 back in 1999. Does this count as an example? I had no education, but then again who needs an education for data entry?

I'm not ruling out bartending or degrading it, I'm just wanting an example with concrete, guaranteed wages as an example.

Communism? Nah, I'm a hardcore Libertarian. Life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness.

There you go. Here's a prime example. But is there a Costco around here? No.

There's a Sam's club, but you've got Wal-Mart wages since they're operated by Wal-Mart. Nothing wrong with paying workers low wages. If you offer jobs, somone will line up. Helps the bottom line.

It's not so much the wage as it is the cost to live here. It's absolutely insane how much it costs to live here.

I only made 6.75 working at office max back in Davenport IA and only worked 20 hours a week.(Office max sucks!) I was spending money like it was going out of style. I put up with the low wage because it covered all my expenses and then some, and it was an easy job.

Now working at coke in grand forks, I get 9.50(the highest paid PT job I've ever seen in this town that doesn't require special training or experiance) and can barely pay for gas and eat. Eating is the biggest expense and it shouldn't be. Not even close. I can spend 70 bucks a month back home and eat fresh food. Here, it's dang near double that at 120 a month and it's crap food at best.

DUDE! I worked at Office Max in Rockford. Worst. Job. Ever. Were you a "Boundless Sales Associate?"

Yeah, but my manager wasn't exactly enthused about it. :D Hell, he wasn't to excited about anything and we still had higher sales in the entire region. haha

ups is a great place to work.

i was a p/t manager there for about a year back in texas.

came up here and tried to get onto their operation but they are small so there was/is no need for my position here, and since i was management previously, i cannot be rehired as hourly (union b.s.)

so.. foiled again!

The Grand Cities. A great place to live, work, and play!™

Would you like to buy a $20 service plan for that pencil?

Haha I used to make that EXACT same joke with people there. My absolute favorite thing about that place were the computers we sold. They weren't even on display. They were just sitting in the boxes with the tags literally thrown on top. Well, customers would always come up to me saying things like, "Hey, I've been looking around for a little while now, and I can't seem to find your computers. Where are they?" So, I would walk them over there, and explain that they're not on display, blah blah blah, and this is the reaction I got so many times, "Pfff....Ha....Hahahaha...THOSE are your computers? HAHAHA (as they walk out the door)." It was great.

Ah, as I like to use for many cities so affectionately (I quote a good friend of mine): "You can't polish a turd." Note, I haven't been in Grand Forks long enough to make any judgement, but the quote seemed fitting.

yes many states have mandated a significantly higher minimum wage.

Most of those states also have a significantly higher cost of living as well. I believe California comes to mind. Chicago also has a higher minimum wage. As for the shock and constant complaint about the cost of living, it probably has more to do with the fact that you probably didnt pay for anything at your previous residence (correct me if I am wrong but I assume you probably lived with your parents, and sorry buying clothes and paying for gas doesnt count). And there is no city in this country where you could support any kind of independent and decent life on a part time job. If you had a full time job you could make it here, ever heard of simplot, crystal sugar, etc, they pay over 12 an hour to start, no experience required. I suggest you look there.

Ah, the good old days. I worked at the one here as well for a brief stint. They were all way to excited to be working at office max and I believe our sales suffered here because of it. You go in there and get asked if you need help finding anything by every single associate. I used to get so frustrated working there. The "sales leader" would have someone greet them at the door. Then have someone else meet them like 20 feet beyond that, and then me or someone else go see if they need anything at the first isle they go down. All in a span of like 30 seconds. :(

The supervisors would always say smart ass remarks like "well, we'll see you here in a month when your camera breaks and you won't be able to return it!" Yeah, that's a great thing to say to someone that's already giving you 300+ dollars to your business.

Did you not see where I said it costs almost double for good food here? That is a significant expense on any budget and when it is almost double than what you'd usually pay with the same wage, it takes a hit.

Clothes cost a little more here too. It's not that much more, but it is more. Except, express in Fargo has seems to have stuff marked down A LOT compared to other express stores I've been in. So that's a plus there I guess. :)

The food here sucks. Plain and simple. I am dieing right now for a good prime rib or steak. Or chinese food. Sooooounnnnndssss so good.

This place needs an outback steakhouse bad. Red Lobster is about the only place thats good and the service is pretty subpar. I am the type of customer that is a water guzzler and no one here can keep up.

Like that one time I bought an ENTIRE $298 suit for $50. It was the only one left on the rack and happened to be my size. I guess they had a hard time selling 32" waist pants :confused::confused:
