I'm Pretty Darn Good CFI

That's AWESOME!
I suck horribly at instructing right now! Teaching and flying are two completely different skill sets. Still trying to get the hang of it. Thought about quitting it several times, but I won't.
I'm going to be pretty freaking good at it too someday though, especially with all the ways I'm learning how not to do it!
Definitely have a long way to go before I am even checkride ready.
Seeing your post is an inspiring boost to keep going. Thanks. ;)

Funny thing: Actually teaching and passing the CFI check-ride are two different skills. The check-ride only really effectively evaluates your ability to teach a few ground lessons and then demonstrate the various maneuvers.

I guess that kinda helps explain how those "two-week wonder" schools are able to do what they do. Teach the test, not the skill.

Think of it as no more than a substitute teachers license. I'm still learning as a CFI, and it's been quite a few years now... Teaching really is a skill that takes time to develop.

Not directed at the OP (congrats Chris) but i always find it funny that the worst people to judge are the ones who are asked who the best instructors are. The average student wouldn’t know a good instructor from a horrible one. It’s sometimes the blind leading the blind.

Congrats! Instruction is hard work no matter how you look at it. Especially in Florida on 35C days! :D

I think AOPA has that thought through.

They don't ask "Rate your CFI" or "Do you think your CFI is the best?"

Instead, they ask questions like "Did your CFI have a syllabus?" or "Did you feel like you knew where you were at all stages of training?"

This describes the AOPA methodology some: https://www.aopa.org/training-and-s.../flight-training-experience-survey-and-awards
