I'm not a pilot.

So when I first came here years ago...well circa 2006 or 2007, I was planning on making flying a career. But since my health has grounded me I'm not even a private pilot. I still have an interest in aviation obviously so is this a thing for only aviation professionals or can anyone interested in aviation attend? And perhaps that's not really a good question because in America I can do what I want. But would I have fun or would it be worth it for me to attend or would I feel out of place?

If you end up feeling out of place, something has gone horribly wrong there. It is a friendly bunch of folks. If they are talking about jobs/airplanes, that's not a good thing for a networking event anyway (you have the whole rest of the year to talk about jobs and airplanes...)

I've never been a career aviation guy, likely won't be until a very very late 2nd career (but who knows?), this will be NJC #6 for me...

It's a lot of fun and I know that sounds "self promotional" but it is.

I'm watching the registrations zoom by and I'm really excited about seeing everyone. AND the fact that I can actually sit back and enjoy the event, rather than driving around Las Vegas hitting Costco and Party City to smuggle it into a hotel room.

Tell you what, @wainscottbl, if you come and you truly feel out of place, I'll refund your registration fee.

Well if I can come I will. I have the whole sweep of brain tests coming up sometime--everything from MRI, to PET, to MEG and a couple more I think. I'm looking into corrective brain surgery for my epilepsy so it may be too busy with school but if I can make it I will! My sister lives in southern Utah and is an hour from Vegas so we may be out there this fall. I could just go to Vegas before or after the visit to my sister.

One of the things I have noticed about aviation, unlike a lot of other cults, is that (in general) most folks are somewhat normal and balanced and enjoyable to be around. You would probably be ok letting a random pilot baby sit your kid...but I'd keep the wife close by...;)

You don't need a license to love airplanes and aviation. Many individuals attend that just like chatting about everything from crop dusting, your uncle who served in WW2 or figuring out where the big dipper is. It's a fun and zany bunch and I always have a good time. Most of the time I don't even know who I'm talking to or even if they have a pilots license. Come join us, I'll introduce you to all the people I don't know.

Not a pilot either, and I'm working out the kinks to try and attend my first NJC! I'm looking forward to meeting everyone, not just a few of you!

I've been waiting to go for 3 years, timing is never quite right (about a month too soon this time). From what I hear, networking is great, but more the sense of the community.

The ones at the door were pleasant but quite firm :)
I got slow rolled at a final table (poker) once and was pretty upset...I took my last tourny chip and snapped it across the table and caught the guy in the middle of the forehead...Casino security had me in about 10 seconds and my feet never touched the ground till I was back on the sidewalk. Nice guys, just didn't want to discuss my options. The police are pretty docile in comparison. That's my favorite poker story. :-)
I was 24, I'm a lot more mature now...

Go, meet some cool people, have a good time in Vegas. When people start geeking out on aviation, excuse yourself from the conversation and talk to other people about something else.

Well, if nothing else it's an open bar and there are Vegas hookers. Though for me it's got to be a call girl or flight attendant. :p But seriously, I love open bars. What are the rules on it? Last open bar I was at they could not give you a neat scotch or anything without ice or a mixer. Also can they make decent drinks?
