Well, I am now instrument rated. I could write a lot, but too exhausted from the 14-hour drive back.

This is where I did the training: http://www.instrumenttraining.com/

I cannot speak highly enough of this place. Not only will you leave with an instrument rating, but you will leave a better stick-and-rudder pilot as well. That's because Mr. Ellsworth goes far beyond simply teaching you to fly on instruments; he will show you how a plane is supposed to be flown. As I told him, I learned more about flying in my 2 weeks there, than I have learned in this past 2 years since getting my private.

Just throwing that out there in case anyone is looking for an accelerated course. I am now going to sleep.

Yep, right now I plan to time-build until I have enough hours for the comm certificate. I am looking forward to flights under IFR.

Thanks for the comments everyone.

Quick is definitely the way to do it. While I didn't do an accelerated program, when I got motivated, I was going up almost every day and knocked it out in a few weeks.

Look at gliders for building time for your C-ASEL. Something new, cheap, and you'll end up with a commercial glider too. You probably have all the time you need in powered A/C already.

Congrats, I was down there in 2004 and had a blast! How's Gerald doing? Isn't his office great?

Haha, Gerold is doing great. Probably the only 73 year-old man out there not afraid to hit 100mph on his motorcycle. He's got a built-up Miata as well, and plans to race. I got to ride in it.

i have two questions for you if you dont mind me asking
1- did you take your checkride down there in SC?
2- when and where did you take your IFR written?
thank you very much

Yes, the checkride was given on-site, with the approaches being flown at nearby KFLO; which is where the majority of the training took place. The actual school is about 8 miles southwest of KFLO; it's just a grass strip with a few hangars. Fun stuff!

I had completed the written test prior to showing up. I doubt that was necessary, but it doesn't hurt to get crap like that out of the way prior to showing up for accelerated training.

Good luck.

thank you very much for the info , i will definetaly consider mr ellsworth for under 6 G's , i think it is worth it
it costs no less than 10K to get IFR certified in the NY area :(
