IFR Pilots. Would you fly through it?

That's interesting - I've never heard that. In my experience ATC paints and points out much more stuff then we are concerned about, and we generally take their info with a grain of salt (ie it's pretty conservative).

That is one of the biggest things I had to understand when flying 121. The guys up front can take the bumps better than the folks in the back. Sometimes we'll get some chop and the Cappy is always asking for ride reports higher and lower, along with everyone else. There are paying customers back there who want it smooth as possible.

I know of a crew who could have learned a lesson from you. I was on a NWA 747 about five years ago flying into MSP when they flew through a bunch of thunderstorms over northern Minnesota. That was some of the most severe turbulence I've ever experienced, spilling drinks and several people screaming. If a 747 can be thrown that much by cells, I wouldn't even want to try it in a smaller plane.

Divert around it.

I couldn't agree more. When you are a newbie, you think that it's nothing. That's why you are a newbie. My avaition knowledge/experience has grown 10X since flying the line. What looks okay isn't always the same. Be safe out there party people.

Notta freaking chance....

That thing is rising like a mofo and its clear on both sides. You prob wouldn't even pick up anything on the radar yet.

Nothing replaces the eyeballs for the best radar out there. I always stay VFR around weather.

Yup I go around stuff like that. Just did a 4 day trip where we had to deviate around a number of those. Plus the dry microburst at SLC were nice too. Anyway, PAX are already a little freaked in the Brasilia, you know with those spinny prop things on the engines etc. So why freak them out more? If it is in my control, I'm all about the PAX comfort thing.
