Looking at buying a "hood" to do IFR training with. Not sure which to buy, so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Got to go with the JeppShades:

Easy On, Easy Off. They just flip up and down like sunglasses and can fit over or under your headset. Real easy and they are not cumbersome like those trash can lids.

Im more a fan of Francis (i think). dremmel or cut the eye holes a little bigger and you are set.

Viban. Much more comfortable than those awful Foggles.

You're welcome, JD!

Vibans are fantastic. If only I'd known when I was a student . . .

Go here: Viban Website and pick up a pair. They're about $25 and WELL worth the price!

I've used both ASA's grey hood and Jepp's foggles equally time wise and have come to prefer the foggles. It's so much easier to flip the foggles up and down when doing multiple approaches than having to remove and replace the entire hood each time you 'go visual'.

You're all wrong!

I bought one of these things in a smalltown FBO a couple years ago, and it its the best "hood" I've ever used:

I'ts pretty much a little piece of cardboard with an elastic strap on it (You could make one yourself, really). But it's super light, it folds flat (and small), it's super comfy and doesn't interfere with glasses, and it works GREAT.

And it costs a couple bucks.

I much prefer those ASA ugly looking grey hoods... they've cheap and do the trick.

Yep, that's what I use.
